Introduction
So this is essentially a 2.0 or V2 version of the original Trax Stampede 4×4, which I also had. This is actually my third trxas Stampede. My very first rc car was a Stampede 4×4 VXL. So I was super excited to pick one of these up. It’s been out for about 4 months now, sells for about $330 in the US.
Specifications
The Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless is a 1/10 scale monster truck designed for off-road racing. It features a brushless motor and 4-wheel drive capabilities, making it suitable for beginners and seasoned RC enthusiasts alike. With a durable construction and high-performance components, this truck is built to withstand rough terrain and provide an exhilarating driving experience.
Performance
The Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless delivers impressive performance on the track. The brushless motor provides fast acceleration and top speeds, while the 4-wheel drive system ensures excellent traction and control. Whether you’re tackling jumps or navigating tight turns, this truck offers a smooth and responsive driving experience that will keep you coming back for more.
Features
In terms of features, the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless comes equipped with a TQ radio and high-quality electronics. The durable construction and waterproof design make it suitable for all types of weather conditions, allowing you to enjoy racing outdoors without any worries. Additionally, the truck is compatible with a wide range of accessories and upgrades, giving you the flexibility to customize and optimize your driving experience.
Radio System
This is their very base model. Radio, um I’m not a big fan of this I’ll be honest with you. It does have a nice film wheel and a pretty basic trigger uh, but it only has one adjustment which is steering trim. So all you can do is adjust and make sure the car goes straight. It doesn’t have dual rate. It doesn’t have any other adjustment so uh to that effect. I do think it’s way too basic, actually not uh. You know particularly good radio, in my opinion.
Brushless Motor and ESC
Pulling off the body kind of the meat of the vehicle is the new Traxxas BL 2s brushless motor and ESC combination. So this is a 2s capable ESC and motor uh. It is brushless, so this is essentially a replacement for their older brush system so brush list. The advantage of that is a little bit more reliable generally has more power uh, just a better system overall doesn’t require any maintenance, or anything like that.
Electronic Components
It comes with the Traxxas 2075 uh Servo, which is a plastic-geared Servo uh, fairly slow, fairly weak, fairly prone to damage um, and then it does come with the TQ receiver. So, in my opinion, yeah I’m not a big fan of the electronics. Like I said about the radio TQ radio is not a great radio. This brushless system for a $330 RC car is very slow. Uh top speed on this is about 23 mph, it’s not too bad compared to their old brushed uh system that they used to have in these vehicles, but compared to other things like the Rival md10 or the armag grant.
Electronics Category Review
The Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless has received mixed reviews when it comes to its electronics category. Some users have pointed out that the servo, although waterproof, is slow and made of poor quality plastic gear. This has led to complaints about its overall performance and lack of features. Due to these shortcomings, it has been compared unfavorably to other vehicles in its price range.
Build Quality and Durability
Despite the criticism regarding its electronics, the Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless does show some promise in terms of build quality and durability. Traxxas has made significant improvements in this model by introducing new plastic parts such as shock towers, steering knuckles, spindles, and rear hubs. The drive shafts have also been upgraded, making the vehicle more durable and resilient to rough handling. The use of the hos chassis further enhances its durability and overall performance.
Performance and Design
The Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless features an all-new design that aims to deliver a better driving experience. The upgraded plastic parts and improved chassis design contribute to a more robust and reliable performance on various terrains. While the electronics may fall short of expectations, the vehicle’s overall build quality and design enhancements make it a viable option for those looking for a first RC car.
Comparison to Competitors
When compared to other vehicles in its price range, the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless may lag behind in terms of electronics performance. However, its build quality, durability, and design improvements set it apart from the competition. While there are some drawbacks to consider, the Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless offers a unique combination of features that make it a compelling choice for those seeking a reliable and versatile RC monster truck.
Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless Body Mount System
A little bit more modern has a really nice body mount system where basically, this body tucks in underneath on the front shock tire. And then you got a clip here on the back which snaps onto the rear shock Tire makes it a breeze to get the body on and off so that’s pretty cool. Overall design is pretty good. I’m a fan of the Traxxas 4×4 lineup. I’ve had many Traxxas 4x4s and they all have a pretty modular design, easy to work on, a lot of upgrades.
Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless Battery Strap System
Probably the only thing I don’t like is the battery strap system. It is designed for 2s, so a 2s pack will fit fine, but if you want to run a bigger pack, it just doesn’t really fit quite right. So, you know, if you go 3s at some point, a 3s pack is not going to fit all that well. I mean, it fits fine for a 2s, but once you take this out, you really have no space for a 3s system.
Some people say: “oh well, you could just flip the battery strap upside down, but, as you can see, it really doesn’t tuck in correctly comes in at a weird angle, and actually you can just pop it off by hand, whereas the correct you know, motion when you snap in the battery strap, it is supposed to be nice and straight, and it cannot come out by itself.
Design
The Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless certainly has its flaws in terms of design. The upside-down battery straps and plastic shocks are not the most appealing features. The plastic shocks, in particular, are small and prone to bending the drive shafts and popping off the shock cap. Despite these weaknesses, the overall design of the car is considered fairly decent. It is modular and easy to work on, with plenty of upgrade options available. The inclusion of a slipper clutch and the potential to swap it out for a center differential adds to the tunability of the vehicle. The abundance of mounts on the arms and shock tower further showcases the thoughtful design of the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless.
Performance
One of the standout features of the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless is its 4×4 design, which is known for its strength and reliability. However, when it comes to speed, the car falls short. With a maximum speed of 23 mph on 2s, it lags behind other vehicles that are 3s capable and capable of reaching speeds in the 43 to 48 mph range. Even when running on 3s, the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless only manages to reach speeds in the 30s, making it one of the slower options in its class.
Weak Servo and Slow Steering
The servo of the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless is quite weak, resulting in slow steering. While shocks are okay, the overall performance in terms of steering leaves something to be desired. Despite performing reasonably well, the vehicle lacks durability in this aspect.
Sledgehammer Tires Upgrade
One notable update to the Stampede lineup is the introduction of the hos St Sledgehammer tires, offering better traction compared to the old Talon tires. These tires are durable and do not tear off easily. Additionally, they provide decent traction without excessive ballooning.
Performance Consideration
Due to the slow speed and subpar steering capabilities, the performance of the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless falls below average. While it is not a terrible RC car, its performance is lacking when compared to other options in the market. As such, a two-star rating is warranted in the performance category.
Durability and Design Improvements
The Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless does boast durability in terms of its chassis and body design. The new body features an integrated roll cage, a significant upgrade from the previous Stampede body which had a tendency to break easily. The chassis also appears to be well-built, offering sturdiness during operation.
Enhanced Bumper Style
Another notable redesign is the improved bumper style of the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless. This updated bumper design adds to the overall durability of the vehicle, making it more resilient during rough play.
Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless – Durability and Performance
Shocks are a little bit of a weak point, but the chassis is great. The new drive shafts and blue plastics are a huge upgrade over the old ones, making it a pretty durable vehicle. The slower speed may actually contribute to its durability, as there are fewer things that can break while driving. Overall, I would give it four stars, with the only real weakness being the shocks which may need some attention.
Availability of Parts
One of the best things about owning a Traxxas vehicle is the ease of finding parts in the US. Almost every hobby shop carries Traxxas parts, making it convenient for owners to quickly fix any issues that may arise. The popularity of Traxxas within the bashing segment ensures that spare parts are readily available, making it a great choice for beginners.
Longevity and Upgradability
The Traxxas Stampede 4×4 has been a popular choice for over a decade, which means that it has stood the test of time in terms of longevity. With its popularity, many hobbyists are familiar with how to work on and upgrade the vehicle. Common breakage points such as shocks, shafts, and arms have readily available spare parts, ensuring that owners can easily maintain and customize their vehicle.
Parts Availability and Ease of Maintenance
Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless is a popular choice among RC enthusiasts due to its easy availability of parts and user-friendly maintenance. The fact that everyone knows how to work on this truck makes it a convenient option for beginners who may not have much experience in RC vehicles.
Support and Warranty
In terms of support, Traxxas Stampede receives a high rating. The inventory is well-stocked, and the maintenance is considered excellent. However, it is important to note that the electronics are only warranted for 30 days. This means that customers should test the vehicle right away to ensure there are no issues with the electronics.
Pricing and Comparison with Competitors
Although the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless sells for $330 in the US, which may seem high for a 1/10 scale monster truck, it is important to consider the competition. Vehicles like the Armag Grant and the Rival mt10 are priced similarly but offer higher speeds and better components.
Quality Control
The Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless stands out from the competition due to its superior quality control standards. Unlike other vehicles made in China, the Traxxas model ensures that every component, including the tracks and electronics, meets high-quality standards. This attention to detail sets it apart in terms of performance and durability.
Performance
When it comes to radio motor EC combination and servo, the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless shines brightly. The powerful brushless motor allows for impressive speed and agility, making it a top choice for beginners and seasoned RC enthusiasts alike. The responsive servo enhances control and maneuverability, providing a thrilling driving experience.
Value
Despite its exceptional performance and quality, some critics argue that the price of the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless may not fully reflect its value. While the upgraded plastic parts add to its durability, some question whether the price increase justifies the improvements. However, for those who value top-notch performance and reliability, the Traxxas model remains a solid investment.
Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless
I do like that they updated all the shocks and the shock towers, as well as the blue plastic parts on the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless. The move to brushless motors is a definite improvement over the traditional brush motor setups, which tend to wear out over time.
Power System Concerns
However, I do wish that Traxxas had included a better power system in this model. The proprietary motor and ESC connectors make it difficult to swap out components for upgrades or repairs. The budget-friendly nature of the motor may also hinder performance, as it seems undersized for the platform.
Performance Issues
The integrated fan in the motor helps with temperature regulation, but pushing the motor to its limits by gearing up the vehicle can lead to overheating. This means that the motor may struggle to keep up with the demands of the Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless, particularly during intense off-road driving sessions.
The Power System
When it comes to the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless, some corners were definitely cut in the power system. Many users express a wish for a real 3s system, feeling that the battery tray should be able to accept a 3s battery properly. It is believed that with this change, the value of the vehicle would be greatly improved. Despite this, the budget-friendly nature of the Stampede is evident in every aspect, including the rather simplistic shocks that are reminiscent of older designs from the 1990s.
Comparative Analysis
In comparison to other RC vehicles in the market, the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless seems to fall short in certain areas. While it does have some upgrades and improvements, it often feels lacking when pitted against models like the Traxxas Hoss, which offers enhanced performance, better electronics, and a superior radio system for a marginally higher price.
Competition in the Market
The realm of RC monster trucks is a competitive one, with brands like Arrma Granite and Rival MT10 offering strong contenders. Despite its shortcomings, the Stampede attempts to carve out its own niche but may struggle to stand out amidst such fierce competition. It appears that Traxxas may have missed the mark with the latest iteration of the Stampede, leaving enthusiasts questioning the direction of the model.
Target Audience
Despite its flaws, the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless does have one standout quality – it is a fantastic beginner vehicle. While it may come with a higher price tag, for those new to the world of RC cars, the Stampede offers a reasonably good introductory experience. As a first RC car, it provides users with a taste of the hobby, offering a balance of performance and ease of use that is essential for newcomers.
Is the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless the best first RC car 4×4 Monster Truck?
Many people may consider the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless as the best option for a first RC car, especially for those looking for a 4×4 Monster Truck experience. However, there are some aspects of this RC car that may not live up to the expectations of more experienced users.
The Need for Speed
The biggest concern for some users is the speed of the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless. While it may be suitable for kids or beginners, adults may find it lacking in power and excitement. This might lead to the desire for upgrades to the power system, servo, and radio, adding up to an extra cost of around $200. For a total price of $530, users might start looking at other options like the max V2, which offers better speed and durability out of the box.
Price Point Predicament
Despite being marketed as an entry-level vehicle, the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless comes with a relatively high price tag compared to other similar RC cars in the market. This pricing strategy might make it less appealing for those who are looking for a budget-friendly option.
Areas for Improvement
Some users may feel that the Traxxas Stampede 4×4 V2 BL-2S Brushless could use some enhancements in the motor, shocks, or servo to improve its overall performance and durability. The TQi radio included with the car is considered to be a mid-level option, which may not satisfy all users.
