The Fastest RTR 1/8 Truck Ever Made
The XTM Mammoth with a powerful 24.7 engine is known to be the fastest Ready-to-Run 1/8 truck ever made. With a confirmed speed of 52 MPH, this beast of a truck has left its competitors in the dust. The combination of speed and power makes it a favorite among RC enthusiasts who crave excitement and adrenaline.
Impressive Performance
Not only is the XTM Mammoth fast, but it also delivers impressive performance on and off the track. The 24.7 engine provides ample power to tackle any terrain, while the durable construction ensures that this truck can handle rough rides without breaking a sweat. With its easy-to-use controls and smooth handling, the XTM Mammoth is a joy to drive for both beginners and experienced RC hobbyists.
Design and Durability
The XTM Mammoth is not only a speed demon but also a well-designed and durable truck. Its sturdy construction can withstand high-speed runs and rough landings, making it ideal for intense racing competitions and thrilling off-road adventures. The attention to detail in the design of the XTM Mammoth ensures that it not only looks sleek but also performs exceptionally well in any conditions.
The XTM Mammoth with 24.7 Engine
Now I notice in the front here we have two engines. One is the original XTM 24.7 and next to it, we have a Force 32, so Ben tell us what’s the story with those engines. How come you ripped one out and put another one in?
When I first purchased this vehicle, the previous owner actually sent me the original 24.7 motor. He stated that the 32 engine was much better, but to be quite honest with you, in order for you to even try to start this, it was a matter of massively heating the engine, loosening up the glow plug, hoping you can get the timing correct. You know, to tighten down the glow plug and keep it running. I turned around, I found another 24.7 that was repinched and I decided to install it because I wanted to keep it as original as possible.
The Fastest RTR 1/8 Truck Ever made
This is a beautiful looking chassis. Now for the viewers at home, I’m going to tell you something. This is a very, very long truck. In fact, the body, I just measured it earlier, it’s about 2 inches longer than a Savage XL, shell alone, top down view. What we have in the center, the famous two-speed transmission, that’s what made this thing fast. It’s got a lot of power and it’s got a lot of gearing.
52 MPH Confirmed
Now top down, it’s interesting. But when you look at the front, pretty unique shock layout here from XTM, the last, I think, Nitro truck.
Front Shock Configuration
Having these kind of side mounted front shocks was the Kosho Nitro Crusher, the very first 1990s USA. One put them like that in the front. What the benefit is the jury is still out on that.
Rear Suspension Setup
In the rear we have the same style setup, pretty smooth shocks in the rear, good suspension travel. These are, in fact, the original Wheels. They still look good plenty of Life on that Chrome.
Unique Design
Top down it kind of resembles, maybe a buggy. It has a very similar layout to a TRXS and a DUR. It was actually unlike a DUR, very fast at 52 mph. This was confirmed by vintage RC Car Action magazine.
Vintage Magazine
This is one of my vintage magazines that I am gifting to my friend, Benjamin. Congratulations, take it. The modern RC Car Action magazines are like 50 pages of electrics. What I want you to do is a random page flip for us all. Let’s see if you land on a Nitro.
Introduction to XTM Mammoth
The XTM Mammoth with 24.7 Engine gained attention for its impressive speed, clocking in at an incredible 52 miles per hour. Back in the day, it was a contender for the title of the fastest, toughest Nitro truck on the market.
Competitive Pricing
When it was first released, the XTM Mammoth was priced at around $400, making it a relatively affordable option compared to its competitors. The Savage 25 and T Max were hovering around the low 400s, while the Pro 15 was in the high 300s. The XTM Mammoth was clearly one of the cheapest options available at the time.
Comparison to Other Models
Comparing the XTM Mammoth to other models in its class, such as the MGT, Savage 21, Titan 25, and Terra Crusher, it stood out as a cost-effective choice. The Terra Crusher, for example, was priced at almost $600, making the XTM Mammoth’s price tag even more appealing.
Size Comparison
To give you an idea of the XTM Mammoth’s size, picture it next to a Savage XL K5.9. The wheelbase of the two vehicles is exactly the same, showcasing the impressive scale of the XTM Mammoth despite its competitive price point.
The Largest Nitro Monster Truck
Many enthusiasts consider the XTM Mammoth with the 24.7 engine as the largest 1/8 scale Nitro monster truck ever made. Back in the day, it was a fierce competitor to other popular models like the MGT 21. The sheer size and power of the Mammoth set it apart from the rest, making it a standout in the world of RC trucks.
The Savage and the LRP 32 Engine
The Savage was another well-known RC truck that enthusiasts couldn’t get enough of. With its impressive design and performance, it was a favorite among hobbyists. The LRP 32 engine was a popular choice for the Savage, providing the truck with the power and speed it needed to dominate the competition. While the Savage was rated to hit 45 mph, some owners were able to push it even further, reaching speeds of 46 mph or more.
The Top Dog Engine of its Time
During the era when the XTM Mammoth and the LRP 32 engine were at the top of their game, they were considered the ultimate combination for RC enthusiasts. The Mammoth, equipped with the powerful 24.7 engine, was unmatched in its speed and performance. It was the go-to choice for those seeking the fastest RTR 1/8 truck on the market.
Big Block Conversions and Aftermarket Upgrades
Many hobbyists sought to upgrade their trucks with big block engines like the LRP 32, looking to enhance their trucks’ performance even further. However, such conversions often required a significant investment, as they necessitated entire chassis replacements. XTM offered conversion kits for those looking to modify their trucks, providing them with the means to take their RC experience to the next level.
The Unique Shock Setup:
The XTM Mammoth breaks away from the typical shock setup seen in other trucks like the T Max. With striking blue and orange colors, XTM aimed to make a bold statement with this design. The sheer size of the body is evident when compared to the Savage XL, making it stand out even more.
Impressive Size:
When you line up the XTM Mammoth body alongside the Savage XL, you can see just how massive it is. In the rear, it is over two inches longer. The wheelbase, however, remains the same, showing the attention to detail in design. Despite being released years after the Savage XL, the XTM Mammoth managed to offer a more affordable option in the market.
Dedication to Greatness:
The XTM Mammoth is dedicated to greatness in the world of 1/8 scale vintage Nitro trucks. It stands out for its performance, design, and overall impact on the hobbyist community. With XTM boasting various models, the Mammoth remains an iconic choice for enthusiasts.
Unconventional Features:
One of the notable peculiarities of the XTM Mammoth is its departure from industry standards. A closer look reveals unique elements that set it apart from its competitors. Despite not conforming to norms, the XTM Mammoth manages to intrigue and captivate enthusiasts with its unconventional design choices.
Unconventional Wheel Design
As I get closer to the wheel, there’s no wheel nut, but there’s an allen, hex screw. That’s right, no wheel nut, not really an industry standard type of design. I did want to take a look inside to see what size the wheel hubs themselves are. I’m not sure if they’re 17mm or not, but I think Ben over there is going to go get a hex nut to take a look inside. When you’re kind of messing around with these old vintage Nitros, expect things to get weird. This one, at least, seems to have foam in the wheels, unlike many older style Nitros from Tower Hobbies or Shoemaker, which had pneumatic wheels, meaning they were foam-free.
Exploring the Internal Components
Ben is going to get a hex nut, which looks like a 3mm size. A pretty beefy screw right there. We’re going to take a look inside to see the wheel knuckles. It’s evident that we have metal knuckles on the inside, along with proper CV drive shafts and shock stops. But, oh man, that is some weird wheel design. It’s a pin design, similar to the RC10 GT and old stadium trucks. The pin goes directly on the wheel, and then you basically pray that you don’t kill the wheel.
Impressive Speed Performance
The XTM Mammoth with a 24.7 engine has been confirmed to be the fastest RTR 1/8 truck ever made, reaching a top speed of 52 MPH. With its high-performance engine and innovative design features, this truck is a powerhouse on the track. The Metal Knuckles and proper CV drive shafts ensure durability and stability at high speeds. The unconventional wheel design may take some getting used to, but it adds a unique touch to this record-breaking truck.
Real Beefy Design
You don’t trip anything so there it is real beefy, but not enough beef and very short screws. Yeah, and man. That is like the world’s shortest screw I’ve ever seen. You really got to thread lock that right, cuz like if you don’t do enough threadlock it pops out. This pin right there will just cut through your entire wheel hub, then you’ll have to spend a lot of money on wheels. Pretty sickening.
Weird Wheel Design
Xtm must have some really weird wheel designs. And yes, it’s true, like other RCs. Had that design but like they were T scale, cheaper race cars. Uh, like rc10gt, Losi xnt, they weren’t 8 scale; 52 mph nitro monster trucks, right. So one of the weird designs – I guess, uh, you could say special thanks for uh, letting everybody check out this super rare vintage, nitro monster truck, right.
Plans for the Future
My pleasure, hopefully one day I’ll be able to get one. But until then we got people in the Nitro G that have them. So what are? What are your plans for this? Well being that this motor was repined, I’m thinking come springtime, make it out to the track in Staten Island. Um, we can definitely do a break-in on this one and we still have to break in my XM accelerator, but Terra cury definitely has to be a part.
The Unveiling
Oh, I see the box top shelf thats, where you want it. Nice, vintage, Nitro, Accelerator, a nice After Shock that I got from my God were cutting into like a part two of the video segment over here, oh thats, the one from Joe Hutchinson. You got it sickening, you know what I was holding this before. I kind of wanted to end this video right now but like dude, its pretty light right extremely extremely light, and I actually almost feel like a buggy yeah thats, probably why they were able to get so uh so much speed out of it, possibly its kind of Funny, though, when you actually watch a lot of the older videos on this, you dont see too many people doing speedruns on them.
The Need for Speed
Oh, no! No! Well, who else is going to be doing it? You know cant, buy them at Horizon, Hobbies, anymore, so or anywhere else. Basically, you got to you got to pray. You got to eat your weedies and uh you got to buy your vintage kn Im, definitely very happy to be uh an owner of one of these. Oh man, I remember when you called me up and you were like Im getting it I was. I was excited right. Absolutely you going to read that magazine later. Oh most definitely – and you know what I I cant wait until the spring – you figure Ive had it for two years already and I still havent taken it out for a real run, so thats right Ill, get the head warmer ready, Ill get the heat run, ready Ill bring the donuts and Ill bring the coffee and Ill drive.
