Unveiling the Yokomo MD 1.0 Limited Edition Purple: My New RC Drift Car!
The journey in the world of RC drifting has been an exhilarating one. From the first faltering steps with my MST RMX 2.5 to the recent upgrades that have transformed the car, it has been a ride filled with excitement. But as with any adventure, there comes a moment when you are faced with a crucial decision – to stay on the same path or venture into uncharted territory.
A Fork in the Road
As I marveled at the improvements we had made to my trusty MST RMX 2.5, a thought began to nibble at the edges of my mind. What if there was more to discover? Would the stock gearing hold up? Would I need to replace the gearbox? These doubts led to a critical crossroad.
The Decision
After much contemplation and weighing of pros and cons, I arrived at a decision. The MST RMX 2.5 was performing exceptionally well, and there was no pressing need for major changes. Yet, the desire to explore the realm of turbo and boost persisted. That’s when I resolved to take a different path and acquire a new drift chassis.

Chassis Assembly: Following the Yoko Instructions
When it comes to assembling my Yokomo MD 1.0 Limited Edition Purple RC Drift Car, the included Yoko instructions have proven to be immensely helpful. They are detailed and provide step-by-step guidance that ensures a smooth assembly process. However, it is crucial to pay close attention and do a good job while following these instructions.
Pay Attention to Supplemental Sheets
One thing to note, especially with the 1.0 model, is the presence of supplement sheets. These additional sheets include newer versions of some of the instructions, and it is important not to overlook them. These supplements often provide essential updates or clarifications that can greatly improve the assembly process.
Assembly of the Differential
Let’s begin with the assembly of the differential. The instructions recommend using the included 5000 weight oil, which should be filled up to the top, leaving a small gap. It is advisable to let the differential rest for a while, allowing the oil to soak in properly. This will give you a more accurate reading of the fluid level before tightening it back up. Following the instructions’ recommended tightening pattern, secure the differential snugly.
Personalizing with T-Work Screws
As I progress with my build, I’ve decided to make a small modification. Instead of using the included screws, I am opting for T-Work screws in gold color. I find the combination of gold and purple visually appealing, and these screws add a touch of personalization to my RC drift car.
Out of the Box Settings
For the most part, I am keeping the rest of the build as per the out-of-the-box settings and instructions. This ensures that I can experience the car’s performance as intended by Yokomo. Following the provided settings guarantees a solid foundation for my car’s functionality.
Enjoyable Gearbox Assembly
Building the gearbox has been a particularly enjoyable part of this assembly process. The instructions lay out the steps clearly, making it easy to follow. As I carefully put together each component, I can already feel the excitement building up to the next steps of completing my Yokomo MD 1.0 Limited Edition Purple RC Drift Car.

All the bearings and components fit together seamlessly, and it truly feels like a huge accomplishment to see it all coming together.
Enjoying the Gearbox Assembly
The gearbox assembly is a significant part of this build, and surprisingly, one of the most enjoyable parts for me. Seeing everything come together and the way it looks is truly fantastic. The engineering and design of the frame are impressive, with a great deal of attention to detail. The connection between the arms and gearbox at the rear is well thought out and incorporated seamlessly into the overall structure.
Well-Designed Components
Every part of this chassis assembly has been meticulously designed. The pieces fit together with precision, demonstrating the careful planning that went into their creation. As I continue to put everything together, I can’t help but appreciate how well everything aligns and functions smoothly.
Plastic Hub Carriers
The rear hub carriers, although made of plastic, are still of decent quality. While I may consider upgrading them in the future, for now, they serve their purpose well. The overall construction is solid, and everything works together seamlessly, showcasing the excellent design and engineering of this RC drift car.
Added Convenience with the Top Brace Plate
Next, we have the little top brace plate, which provides additional mounting space for body posts and any extra accessories for your electronics. It’s remarkable to see the level of thought that went into even the smallest details of this build. The designers have truly gone above and beyond to ensure a top-notch user experience.
Installing the Steering Rack
Now, it’s time to proceed with the installation of the steering rack. This crucial component will ensure precise control and maneuverability for your RC drift car. With each step of the assembly process, I become more excited to see the final result.
Steering Rack and Ball Bearings
The first thing that caught my attention when assembling the Yokomo MD 1.0 Limited Edition Purple RC Drift Car was the steering rack with the ball bearings. The design is truly impressive, with a smooth and seamless movement. However, it seems like some adjustments will be required as it gets broken in. To ensure optimal performance, tightening the bearings may be necessary. Thankfully, there is a little space to readjust the bearing and tighten it up if needed.
Servo Mount and Front Plate
As I progressed with the assembly, I found myself working on the servo mount and the front plate for the front bottom chassis. The arms were also installed, and they offer ample movement. Connecting the components into place, I was amazed at how freely everything moved. The build quality of this RC drift car is truly exceptional, and the anodized aluminum parts add a premium touch. It feels fantastic when all the pieces come together seamlessly.
Front Shock Tower and Calibrated Settings
Moving on, it was time to build up the front shock tower. The attention to detail in the design is evident, and the overall aesthetics are pleasing. The anodized aluminum parts continue to impress. To ensure that the settings were accurate, I used my trusty calipers to measure and adjust according to the supplement manual’s recommendations. For now, I decided to stick with the out-of-the-box settings, but I anticipate making some changes later on for a more personalized setup.
Main Chassis Plate and Rear Assembly
Finally, the moment arrived to work on the main chassis plate. Installing the battery tray, I appreciated the well-thought-out design that made the process smooth and hassle-free. With the rear arms, shock tower, and gearbox assembly in place, secured by the supplied screws, the rear assembly came together effortlessly. Adding the Front and Stiffening the Frame
With the front part in place, the car gains a more complete look. But there’s more to be done to ensure stability and performance. We attach the longer brackets that serve to stiffen up the frame, an ingenious design feature. The attention to detail is evident as each component seamlessly fits together, forming a sturdy foundation for our drift car.
Building the Shock System
Now it’s time to turn our focus to the shocks. We assemble them with utmost care, making sure to utilize the included shock oil. The out-of-the-box setup proves sufficient for now, using the provided 50-weight shock oil. The result is a smooth and predictable suspension system that will aid in the car’s performance.
The Art of Springs
As we delve further into the assembly process, we encounter the two different types of springs. It’s crucial to follow the proper orientation to maximize the car’s handling.
