With its white hole style wheels and narrow tire up front than in the rear, this buggy is a sight to behold. And let’s not forget the large bumper for protection, giving it that rugged and durable look.
A Closer Look at the Suspension
One of the standout features of the Super Sabre 2023 is its suspension system. The front suspension showcases a Monoshock, which adds a unique touch to the overall appearance of the buggy. It also features a sway bar to help keep the roll down while cornering, ensuring a smooth and stable driving experience. The double wishbone suspension, both in the front and rear, provides excellent control and maneuverability.
Attention to Detail
Tamiya has left no stone unturned when it comes to the design of the Super Sabre 2023. The red steering knuckles, captured by the kingpin style pivot balls, add a pop of color to the overall aesthetics of the buggy. The multiple-piece construction includes little metal plates that need to be screwed in, adding an extra level of intricacy.
The rear of the buggy is equally impressive, with massive red hubs supporting the axles and CVA shocks. The oil-filled shocks come with a soft oil from the factory, giving the buggy a balanced and smooth ride. The attention to detail doesn’t end here.
An Ingenious Chassis Design
The Super Sabre 2023 features an ABS tub chassis that offers durability and stability. The gearbox is mounted to the chassis with just a few screws, ensuring a secure and reliable connection. Tamiya even utilizes the bottom of the bumper to help secure everything in place, making sure nothing comes loose during the thrilling rides.
Another unique design feature is the lower battery plate, which helps secure the rear of the buggy. This design choice, although unconventional for its time, proved to be effective. Additionally, Tamiya provides a lexan cover for the tub chassis, preventing dirt from getting inside. They have truly thought of everything!

Rediscovering the Classic 4WD RC Buggy
That goes on top of the servo, so the dirt stays out of the servo area, its got a rack for the steering adjustable High rods and, as I mentioned, the battery is accessed from the bottom. Here. You just remove this pin on the side drop down the plate, you can access.
Improved Design and Functionality
The battery pack’s got the little Nerf Wings on the side that actually help keep the battery in place. Uh back to the drive line, so we’ve got gear differentials in the front and in the rear, uh the cast metal gears on the inside of the diffs and then the standard Tamiya gears that we’ve seen on so many kits and then it’s a mix of bearings and bushings and they even have thrust bearings in there and then the two gearboxes are made up by a wire-style propeller shaft, so very old school.
A Wave of Nostalgia
It’s got to bring back a ton of memories for a bunch of people, myself included. I love staring at these things in the Tamiya catalogs, so the only thing you’re going to need to supply for this is a radio system, a Servo battery charger uh and some building supplies. Of course, some CA glue for the tires, although, if you’re running the stock motor, I think it’s got to be mildly powerful. You might not even have to glue the tires, but I did. You have to paint the driver figure and again cut out the de house, but when it’s done, it’s just a fun looking re-release from Tamiya.
The Joy of Driving
My big thing was: I wanted to drive one of these as a kid, and I get to drive it now, so let’s head over to GLE mods. We’re going to run it on the track there and just see how it Music goes.
A Thrilling Track Experience
Applause, I’m back at G mods, RC in New York, and once again, he has torn up the track to do a track. [No continuation of content provided]
Setting Up the Super Sabre
I’ve got the 15-tooth pinion gear in here and a 2s battery pack. That’s where we’re going to shortcut the track and I’m just going to blast it through. Sometimes over the bump, sometimes over that jump, and just have fun with it. It’s pretty quick with this setup, but there’s something I’ve got to warn you guys about.
A Minor Issue
So I put the 15-tooth pinion in and they have these little metal spacers on the inside to space out the gear mesh. But it’s not correct in the manual. I burnt up the motor in 4 minutes, so I ran inside and bought another 540 motor. I just moved one spacer over, so it’s a little bit looser, and we’re good to go. Now everything’s working great, and you hear that classic Tamiya drivetrain chirp. It’s so much fun!
A Cool Ride
There’s not a ton of steering in this because of the setup with the steering rack, but just enough. This thing is cool, guys, really worth it if you ever wanted one. What another great re-release from Tamiya! It’s such a fun build and so much fun to drive.
Nostalgia from the ’80s
You know, back in the late ’80s, when I was driving RC cars, there were a lot of Boomerangs. But the Super Sabre was always on my radar. It was the buggy that everyone talked about, and now the 2023 version brings back all those memories.
The Return of the Tamiya Super Sabre 2023

With its iconic design and impressive performance, the Super Sabre is sure to capture the hearts of both old and new fans alike.
A Blast from the Past
For those who have been part of the RC world for a while, the Super Sabre is a name that brings back memories. Even if you never had the chance to own one, seeing it in the catalog was enough to pique your interest. Its sleek design and promise of endless fun on the track made it a must-have for many RC enthusiasts.
Unleash the Power
Driving the Super Sabre is a pure delight. The distinct sound of the drive train, the tires scrubbing against the ground, and the chassis smacking against obstacles – all these elements come together to create a thrilling experience. The Super Sabre’s performance on jumps is particularly impressive, leaving you wanting more.
A Word of Caution
As with any RC buggy, there are a few things to keep in mind while using the Super Sabre. One of the concerns is the motor and gear mesh. Initially, there were some issues with using the suggested 15 tooth pinion gear and mesh position. However, switching to the 16 tooth mesh position resolved the problem. It’s essential to pay attention to the gear sound to prevent any damage to the transmission.
Suspension Woes
Another aspect to be aware of is the front suspension of the Super Sabre. In certain cases, the suspension drops out fully, causing the dog bones to hit the outdrive cups. To tackle this issue, it is recommended to place an extra O-ring on the inside as a shock limiter in the front. This small adjustment ensures a smoother ride and prevents any potential damage to the buggy.
The Return of the Classic 4WD RC Buggy
If you’re a fan of remote control (RC) buggies, you’re in for a treat! With its sleek design and advanced features, this buggy is sure to capture the hearts of both long-time enthusiasts and newcomers to the hobby.
A Slight Improvement
While the re-release of the Tamiya Super Sabre is undoubtedly exciting, there are still a few areas where improvements could have been made. One such area is the battery end caps. It would have been ideal if Tamiya had revised these end caps to accommodate standard 2s battery packs. Although an extension option is available, designed for the seven-cell stick pack setup, it would have been more convenient for users if a 2s battery pack could fit directly without any additional modifications.
Aesthetic Appeal in Every Detail
One of the standout features of the Tamiya Super Sabre 2023 is the fact that the body comes pre-painted. This means that right out of the box, you can expect a visually stunning RC buggy. The attention to detail on the body is commendable, as Tamiya has stayed true to the original design, capturing the essence of the classic buggy.
