Round One: Hill Climb Challenge
The first round of the “EXTREME Upgraded RC Car Challenge!” was the hill climb challenge. We decided to take on the steepest road in Britain, a daunting task for any RC car. The cars we used for this race were some super basic 4×4 crawlers, not exactly known for their speed. But that’s what made it more interesting – it would test the drivers’ stamina, not just the cars’ capabilities.
It was a head-to-head competition between me and Matt from DIY perks, just like last year. As we positioned ourselves at the bottom of the hill, we could feel the adrenaline pumping through our veins. The countdown began, and in a split second, we were off, racing towards the top of the hill.
Matt’s car seemed to have slightly more power than mine, giving him a small advantage. But I refused to let that discourage me. As we maneuvered around the cones that lined the track, I could feel the tension increasing. It was a battle of skill and precision. Every turn, every bump in the road was crucial. We pushed our cars to their limits, trying to gain any advantage we could.
The race was neck and neck, both of us giving it our all. The spectators watched in awe as we approached the finish line. But then, just as Matt was about to claim an easy victory, disaster struck. His car veered off course, losing control in the last few meters. I couldn’t believe my luck. In a split second, I overtook him and crossed the finish line, securing my victory in the first round of the challenge.
Round Two: 10-Mile Endurance Race
After the exhilarating hill climb challenge, we were ready for the next round – a grueling 10-mile endurance race through the night. The darkness added an extra layer of difficulty, testing our focus and concentration. The track was set up with various obstacles, forcing us to navigate sharp turns, treacherous terrain, and unexpected surprises.
Both Matt and I had upgraded our cars to handle this challenging course. We had new tires, improved suspension systems, and extra lights to guide us through the darkness. As the race started, it quickly became clear that this was going to be a battle of mental fortitude as much as physical endurance.
The minutes turned into hours as we pushed ourselves to keep going. The noise of our cars echoed through the night as we raced towards the finish line. Fatigue started to set in, but neither of us was willing to give up. It was a test of determination and willpower.
As the finish line came into view, I felt a surge of energy. I pushed my car to the limit, trying to gain any possible advantage over Matt. But he wasn’t willing to let me take the lead. We sprinted towards the finish, each second feeling like an eternity. And in the end, by the narrowest of margins, I managed to cross the finish line first, claiming my second victory in this extreme RC car challenge.
Round Three: Amphibious Car Challenge
<div
The Start of the Challenge
Oh mans got off hes rolled hes rolled hes out, oh no hes, not out. Thankfully, his car was undamaged, but I was closing in behind leading to another dramatic mistake. After two consecutive crashes, I wasn’t too far behind, but I ran out of Road station round to Matt right then so it’s time for the modifications that were going to be making to these cars before the next round, which is going to be an endurance race into The night the course would be a 10-mile disuse train track, traveling through tunnels and over Bridges.
The Modifications
Before, eventually reaching the Finish Line. We only had two hours to make the modifications. One mod that we both decided on was to make the cars as light as possible, which should help increase the range. Taking loads of stuff off to make it a bit lighter and I’ve also installed a mini roll cage. So these pieces of plastic come to 110 grams.
Battery Upgrade
Each of the standard batteries would only give us 20 minutes of driving, so we’d have to bring loads of them and do loads of pit stops. However, Matt had a better idea. I found a 2s battery massive one to sell the difference between mine and Matt’s batteries was capacity. Matt’s battery was a 3300 milliamp hour, while mine was just a 300 milliamp hour battery. So I decided to combine a few of my batteries together to minimize the number of pit stops.
Collaboration and Sportsmanship
With the clock ticking down and only limited time to do each modification, we ended up helping each other out in the spirit of good sportsmanship.
INTENSE COMPETITION
In the extreme upgraded RC car challenge, the stakes are high and the pressure is intense. With the competition reaching its climax, every participant is pushing themselves to the limit in a bid to come out on top. For one particular racer, the outcome of this round is crucial, as it could determine their fate in the entire competition.
A RACE AGAINST THE ODDS
The competitors knew that this round would not be an easy one. The cars they were using were cheap and not built for endurance. Any mechanical failure could spell disaster and put them out of the race. To add to their troubles, the conditions on race day were far from ideal. Rain poured down, turning the race into an extreme test of not only the cars but also the drivers’ skills.
A BATTLE FOR THE LEAD
As the race kicked off, it became clear that it would be a test of endurance. Max and Matt emerged as the frontrunners, engaging in an intense battle for the lead. Max displayed impressive driving skills and managed to take the lead, but the gap between him and Matt was not substantial. It was still anyone’s race.
FACING ADVERSITY
As time passed, the race became even more challenging. The conditions took a toll on the cars, with breakdowns happening more frequently. While Max and Matt fought for the lead, the other racers found themselves struggling to keep up. Our protagonist, unfortunately, found themselves in last position, a less than ideal situation. However, they remained determined and continued to push forward, hoping for a stroke of luck.
SEIZING OPPORTUNITY
Despite being in last place, our protagonist understood the importance of being ready to capitalize on any mistakes made by the frontrunners. They kept a close eye on Matt, the current race leader, knowing that if he encountered any trouble, they would be right behind to take advantage of his misfortune. It was a game of strategy and perseverance.
TOWARDS VICTORY?
As the race wore on, Matt continued to hold onto his lead. His car proved to be slightly faster and more reliable, allowing him to extend the gap between him and the other racers. It seemed like victory was within his grasp. However, in this challenging race, anything could happen. The fate of our protagonist, as well as the outcome of the entire competition, hung in the balance.
Trim Adjustments and Tire Troubles
During the extreme upgraded RC car challenge, participants faced various obstacles that tested their skills and abilities. For Matt, a quick trim adjustment proved to be a detrimental mistake as it cost him precious seconds in the race. Changing the trim on the car itself was a hassle, adding to the challenge and increasing the pressure on the competitors. Despite the setback, Matt managed to recover and get closer to his opponent.
A Bumpy Ride and Nerve-Wracking Moments
While moving forward, Matt noticed that his wheels seemed to be wobbling slightly. A bit nervous about the situation, he tried to stay composed and focused on the race ahead. Though he fell behind, Matt kept his determination intact, pushing through the first creepy, dark tunnel, relying on the distant glow of his competitor’s headlights as a guide. The situation was perplexing, but Matt remained optimistic.
Mile Two and Race Progress
As the race entered the second mile, Matt’s lead provided him with a moment to catch his breath and appreciate the surrounding scenery. However, his opponent, though trailing, still harbored hope for a comeback. The competition remained tight, and as they ventured further into the race, both participants maintained their drive and determination.
Impressive Endurance and Unexpected Unity
Despite the tiny size and affordable nature of their RC cars, both Matt and his opponent were impressed by their endurance. The cars showed no signs of fatigue or slowing down, surpassing expectations. With nothing broken yet, the competitors decided to team up for the final leg of the race. While Matt was likely to claim victory, they preferred to have some fun together, aiming to finish the race side by side, prioritizing teamwork over intense competition.
The Ultimate RC Car Challenge: Conquering Land and Water
The intense competition between Matt and his opponent reached its peak as they raced towards the finish line. The thrill of the moment was palpable; victory hung in the balance. As long as their cars held up, Matt would secure the win. Excitement filled the air as they tackled the final leg of the race, driving together in perfect harmony.
A Test of Endurance: Overcoming Unforeseen Obstacles
After hours of adrenaline-fueled driving, the end was finally within sight. Astonishingly, their upgraded RC cars had endured the rough terrain, conquering 10 miles of bumpy, stony roads without any signs of slowing down. Matt’s car, in particular, had achieved this feat on a single battery. Undeniably, these vehicles had exceeded all expectations.
The Challenge Within a Challenge: Braving the Waters
But what awaited them next was the ultimate test of their upgraded RC cars—a treacherous course on Rudyard Lake. This two-mile stretch of water would push their vehicles to their limits. The challenge began on dry land, with the start gates signaling the start of the dash across the water to a floating marker. The cars’ survival depended on successfully making it back to the start/finish line without sinking or flipping over.
Unleashing the Amphibious Power: The Modifications
To make their cars waterborne, Matt and his opponent went all out. They fitted their RC cars with enormous electric ducted fans, each measuring an impressive 90 millimeters in diameter. These fans were powered by separate batteries, distinct from the wheel batteries. Additionally, a servo was incorporated to control the rudder, allowing them to steer and navigate the treacherous waters.
Matt focused on modifying the boat hull itself, using polystyrene to create a lightweight yet sturdy structure. The simplicity of this modification belied its effectiveness. With their specially engineered upgrades, these RC cars were now both land and water warriors.
The Thrilling Conclusion: Who Will Claim the Project Air Trophy?
With the completion of the amphibious car challenge, the competitors stood on the precipice of victory. Only one question remained: Who would emerge as the Project Air Trophy champion? Their rollercoaster journey had taken them through rough terrains, bumpy roads, and now treacherous waters. The answer was within grasp, but only time would reveal the ultimate champion of the EXTREME Upgraded RC Car Challenge.

The Final Showdown Begins!
Heading 1: A Disastrous Start
It could all go disastrously wrong in a matter of seconds – power on, three, two, one – let’s go! With bated breath, I eagerly watched as the upgraded RC car sprang into action. A thrill surged through me as I marveled at its perfect execution. Yes, it was working right! The excitement was palpable as we prepared to set it in motion.
Heading 2: Going the Wrong Way
Oh, how quickly things can change. In the blink of an eye, our joy turned to dismay as the car refused to go in the right direction. It seemed as though the talk of upgrades and enhancements hadn’t quite translated into improved functionality. We were going a bit – or rather, a lot – in the wrong way. The roll mechanism seemed to be failing us, and the situation was rapidly spiraling out of control. This was not going well, to say the least.
Heading 3: Warming Up
Yet, I refused to give up. “Okay,” I thought to myself, “I’m just warming it up. It just needs a bit of time to get into its groove.” With that resolve, I activated the giant electric fan and put my faith in the slightly questionable hull design of our amphibious car. It was a challenge to handle, but I was determined. Despite the initial setbacks, I slowly started to get the hang of it. The power was on, and I could feel the increased airflow over the rudder. It was time to give it another shot.
Heading 4: Navigating the Course
Now, with a renewed sense of confidence, I maneuvered the car towards the designated marker. The anticipation was thick in the air as I approached it. Would I hit it? Oh no, I managed to avoid a collision just in time. More thrust, I thought, more thrust! I needed to get it around and clear the marker. The spectators erupted in applause as I successfully cleared the obstacle. It was a moment of triumph.
Heading 5: The Final Challenge
But the journey wasn’t over yet. The ultimate test awaited me – driving the car out of the water and over the finish line. As I looked at the car, the question lingered: would there still be power to the wheels? The lights were still on, providing a glimmer of hope. With determination in my eyes, I navigated the home stretch.
Heading 6: The Finish Line
The tension in the air was palpable as I wondered if the car would tip over. My heart raced as I attempted the final challenge. Could I get it back to the gates? I desperately needed to go through them to claim victory. Every ounce of focus and skill was required as I made my way towards the finish line. The spectators held their breath, waiting for the outcome.
Although the journey had been filled with ups and downs, triumphs and failures, I refused to be deterred. The power of determination fueled me, driving me towards the finish line. In that moment, as I crossed over, the lights still shining, I felt a surge
Challenge 1: The Amazing Escape
That means that we’ve still got power. I think okay, coming in, coming in, come on. Yes, nice, that worked amazingly and it’s still alive. Amazingly, the car managed to get back safe and sound in a pretty respectable time, despite a few pirouettes here and there.
Challenge 2: Matt’s Turn
Right, Matt’s turn. Yeah, lighter. Let’s see if you can drive us any better than me. But would Matt have the same luck and even make it three out of three challenges? One with a faster time. Well, it didn’t get off to a good start. Three, two, one, go! Don’t forget to turn. With some minor assistance, Matt was back up and running and looking to overtake me, if only he could keep it together. Hey, that’s way better. No, oh no, what’s happened? Oh, gone wrong. Mark, get it together, get it together. It’s all going wrong. Try not to crash into that marker. Come on, oh I’m round, I’m round. Here we go, and it’s home straight, yeah. This is a happy medium, yeah. There we go, yeah, yeah, yeah, you need the authority, yeah, yeah. It was looking good, but with the seconds ticking away, it all started to come undone. No, it’s going the wrong way. It won’t straighten, no, we’ve lost it. Go around, go around, go around! Oh no, so close to Victory.
Challenge 3: The Struggle
Okay, drive out. No, oh, it’s a struggle, it’s a struggle, but he’s almost there, and he’s out. Yay! Across the line, nice one, well done.
Victory Achieved!
That was a valiant effort. With that, another year’s race had concluded, and despite Matt’s overall time, his car emerged victorious in two out of the three rounds, making him the 2023 Champion.
Tiny But Mighty
The real champions, though, are these tiny, cheap RC cars, which achieved incredible things. They conquered the steepest road in Britain, defying the odds and showcasing their incredible capabilities. No challenge was too tough for them.
Endurance Test
Completing a 10-mile endurance race was no easy feat, but these upgraded RC cars proved their worth. They zoomed past the competition, their engines roaring with determination. The crowd was in awe as they witnessed the sheer power and speed of these miniature vehicles.
Amphibious Marvels
But that’s not all. These remote-controlled cars even became surprisingly decent amphibious vehicles. Who would have thought that these little machines could conquer both land and water? It was a sight to behold as they glided effortlessly through the waves, leaving everyone in amazement.
Congratulations to Matt!
