Top 5 New Cheap RC Cars for 2021
You won’t see any old cars here as all the cars featured in today’s video were released at some point this year. The famous and arguably still the best cheap RC car in the world, the HBX 16889 or FTX Tracer, won’t be making an appearance as that is now considered an old truck. This video is only going to feature new releases.
Making Difficult Choices
Making videos like this can be difficult, as people have their own personal opinions about what should be included on a top five list. But I’ve gone through all of my cheap RC car reviews from this year to try and narrow down my choices to five excellent, cheap RC cars. Now there’s something for everyone in this video. It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting out or you’ve been in the hobby for a while. You may be looking for something inexpensive to have as a second car, or you may just be looking for another cheap RC car. So let’s make a start and take a look at number five.
Number Five: Whole Speed HS18431
At number five, we have the Whole Speed HS18431. This thing is like a mini armor fire team. It may be tiny, but it certainly packs a punch with its included brushless system. With a 2s LiPo battery, this truck is great fun. It’s ready to run right out of the box, and all you need to do is provide some double A batteries for the transmitter. The chassis features metal drive shafts, metal center drive shafts, a new updated battery tray, LED lights, and, most importantly, proper oil-filled shocks, which feel really impressive.
The Impressive Performance of the hs18431 Truck
The hs18431 truck has managed to impress with its speed right out of the box, reaching a maximum of 20 miles per hour. Despite its small size, this little truck shows great potential. It proves to be stable and performs well on both roads and off-road terrains. Overall, the hs18431 offers a satisfying performance that will please any truck enthusiast or someone looking for a unique experience.
A Truck for the Armor Fire Team Fan
For those who are fans of armor fire teams or simply searching for something different, the hs18431 truck is a great choice. Its distinct features and capabilities make it stand out from the crowd. If you’re tired of conforming to popular choices, this truck offers a refreshing change. Its performance and design will surely catch your attention.
Pricing Information
In my videos, I usually refrain from mentioning prices due to their daily fluctuations. However, today I will provide some price references. Please keep in mind that these prices are subject to change. Currently, the hs18431 truck is available for approximately $112 or £89 on banggood. For convenience, I will include links to all the vehicles featured in today’s video in the description below.
The Unique W Toys 124008
Moving on to number four, we have the W Toys 124008. This particular model sets itself apart from the usual WL Toys cars we’ve seen in the past. Its appearance resembles the mjx hyper go, sharing the same chassis and components. However, despite these similarities, the W Toys 124008 still retains the signature look and feel of WL Toys.
A Different Approach
What distinguishes the W Toys 124008 from the typical WL Toys buggies is the incorporation of more plastic components. While some may view this as a downside, it actually adds to the truck’s durability and versatility. The increased use of plastic materials ensures that this model can withstand more challenging terrains and is less prone to damage.
The hs18431 truck impresses with its speed and stability, offering a great experience for enthusiasts and those seeking something unique. The W Toys 124008, on the other hand, provides a twist on the usual WL Toys buggies with its greater use of plastic components. Both models offer their own advantages and are worth considering for anyone interested in remote-controlled trucks.
Why Plastic RC Cars are More Durable for Beginners
Plastic RC cars are often considered more durable compared to RC cars with metal components. This is because plastic tends to flex, while metal tends to bend. For beginners who are just starting out in the hobby, having a durable car is essential. One such car that stood out when reviewed is the 12400a.
Nimble and Well-Made
When reviewing the 12400a, it was surprising to discover that it felt light and nimble, yet very well made. However, there was one aspect that wasn’t particularly impressive – the included battery and the way it connects to the car. But here’s the good news: you can easily remove the plastic cover and find a proper Deans connector underneath. This allows you to use any battery you prefer. Additionally, the car provides a generous battery tray for easy fitting.
Upgradable Electronics
One notable feature of the 12400a is its excellent electronics. It comes with a standalone receiver, which is ideal for future upgrades or using your own receiver. If you’re not satisfied with the included transmitter from the WL toys range, you may want to consider upgrading it right away. The new style of transmitter may not be as nice as the older ones, leaving enthusiasts questioning WL toys’ decision to change the design.
Plastic with a Touch of Metal
Despite being primarily made out of plastic, the 12400a still includes metal components to enhance its durability. Metal drive shafts, a metal center drive shaft, a metal front bumper, and metal diffs are part of the package. Not to mention the excellent metal adjustable oil-filled shocks that provide a silky smooth ride, as one would expect from a WL toys RC car.
Impressive Top Speed
The claimed top speed of the 12400a is an impressive 37 miles per hour. And when put to the test, it did not disappoint. The car achieved the expected top speed, further proving its capabilities and performance.
For beginners looking for a durable RC car, opting for one primarily made of plastic is a wise choice. The 12400a stands out with its nimble and well-made construction, upgradable electronics, and a touch of metal for enhanced durability. Its impressive top speed adds to the overall appeal, making it a great option for those entering the RC car hobby.
Introducing the Top Three RC Cars for Off-Road Performance
1. WL Toys 124008: Impressive Top Speed and Suspension
When it comes to off-road performance, speed is often a crucial factor. The WL Toys 124008 delivers with its impressive top speed of 37 miles per hour. Unlike some manufacturers that may exaggerate their vehicle’s capabilities, WL Toys has proven to be truthful in their claims.
What sets this buggy apart is its exceptional off-road performance. Thanks to the well-designed shocks, it can handle even the most challenging and bumpy terrains. The WL Toys 124008 comes at a reasonable price of 122.96 pounds, making it a worthwhile investment for enthusiasts seeking reliable and high-performing RC vehicles.
2. High Boxing HBX 2996A: The Monster Truck Experience
For those seeking an even more powerful off-road experience, the High Boxing HBX 2996A is an excellent choice. As the largest truck featured on this top-five list, it truly lives up to its “monster” truck title. Although it’s advertised as a 1/10th scale truck, it’s slightly smaller than the Team Associated Rival MT10, which is a true 1/10th scale RC monster truck.
However, its compact size shouldn’t be a deterrent as the HBX 2996A still offers a decent size compared to other cars on the list. This actually works to its advantage, especially if you enjoy running your RC car on more challenging terrains. Its larger wheels and tires, as well as higher ground clearance, ensure that the HBX 2996A can conquer any obstacle with ease.
Known for producing durable and affordable RC cars, HBX has once again delivered with its latest offering. The HBX 2996A comes packed with impressive features, such as thick CVD drive shafts, standalone upgradable electronics, LED lights, flexible plastics, and excellent oil-filled shocks. However, the standout feature of this truck is its center differential, which enhances its performance and handling.
3. The Redcat Racing Everest-10: Conquering All Terrain
Last but certainly not least, we have the Redcat Racing Everest-10. This RC truck excels in tackling all types of terrain, making it a versatile choice for both beginners and experienced hobbyists. While it may not be the fastest car on the list, it makes up for it with its durability and adaptability.
Equipped with waterproof electronics, the Everest-10 can navigate through mud, snow, and even shallow water without any concerns. The truck’s high-torque brushed motor ensures sufficient power, making it suitable for various off-road challenges. Additionally, its aggressive tires and four-wheel drive system provide excellent traction on any surface.
In terms of durability, the Everest-10 shines with its sturdy chassis and reliable components. With proper maintenance and care, this RC truck can endure countless hours of off-road fun.
The Advantages of a Sensor Diff on a Cheap RC Car
A sensor diff on a cheap RC car may be unheard of, but it can make a huge difference when it comes to the handling of the truck. Let’s talk about speeds, then.
Impressive Performance on a Small Battery Pack
During my testing, I used the included 2s pack, which is only a tiny 1600 milliamp hour pack. However, due to the lightweight and efficient design of the truck, this small pack still provided great run time. I was able to achieve a speed of 31 miles per hour on the speed test, which is a very respectable speed for its stock brushless setup.
Potential for Improvement with a Larger Battery Tray
One area where there could be potential for improvement is the chassis design. I would love to see a slightly different design that allows for a larger battery tray. This would provide the option for users to use bigger battery packs, resulting in longer run times.
Epic Off-Road Performance
When it comes to off-road performance, this little truck truly shines. The sensor diff plays a significant role in its exceptional handling. Compared to other cheap RC cars I’ve tested of a similar size, this truck feels more planted and stable. It’s noticeable during driving, making off-road adventures a breeze.
Smooth and Enjoyable Power Delivery
The power delivery of this RC car is another impressive feature. It never feels like a chore to drive around, thanks to its smooth delivery of power. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced RC car enthusiast, you’ll appreciate the ease of handling and control.
A Standout Addition to the High Boxing Lineup
This RC car is a standout addition to the high boxing lineup. Its off-road performance, coupled with its efficient design and impressive power delivery, make it one of the best options in its price range. It has quickly become one of my favorite RC cars featured on my channel.
A Larger Option That Doesn’t Break the Bank
If you’re looking for a slightly larger RC car that still falls within the budget-friendly category, this is the one to consider. Despite its affordability, it performs remarkably well and offers an enjoyable driving experience. Don’t let its price tag fool you; this RC car can keep up with its more expensive counterparts.
