Priced at $99.99, it offers great value for money, akin to a full tank of gas. The compact size of this crawler allows for easy transportation and storage without breaking the bank.
Upgrade Installation
I recently received a selection of upgrades for the Redcat Ascent 18. While there were many options to choose from, I decided to focus on installing the brass components, specifically in the portal axles. The stock setup had a 50/50 weight distribution, non-sticky tires, and a side Hill angle limit of around 46-47 degrees.
Brass Components
The brass portal axle covers that were included in the upgrade package are of high quality and come at a premium price. By installing these brass components, I aimed to improve the overall performance and stability of the crawler, particularly on challenging terrains.
Testing
After installing the brass upgrades, I took the Redcat Ascent 18 out for a test run. The difference in performance was noticeable. The crawler exhibited improved traction and stability, allowing it to tackle steeper inclines and obstacles with ease. The added weight of the brass components helped to lower the center of gravity, resulting in better overall handling.
Brass Upgrades for Redcat Ascent 18 1/18 Mini Crawler
Unfortunately, the cost of upgrading a vehicle can quickly add up, especially when it comes to brass components such as links and axle covers. These additions may seem minor, but they can significantly impact the performance of the vehicle. The weight distribution plays a crucial role in the overall functionality of the crawler.
Benefits of Brass Components
Brass parts, like the ones added to the Redcat Ascent 18 1/18 mini crawler, offer increased weight, which can enhance the stability and traction of the vehicle. By replacing lightweight parts with heavier brass components, the weight distribution of the crawler is improved, leading to better climbing abilities and enhanced performance on uneven terrain.
Weight Distribution and Performance
With the addition of brass components, the weight distribution of the Redcat Ascent crawler has been significantly improved. The vehicle now boasts a distribution of 56:44, a significant enhancement that can make a noticeable difference when tackling challenging obstacles. The improved weight distribution also ensures better stability on side hills, providing a more balanced and controlled driving experience.
Enhanced Handling with Brass Upgrades
One of the most noticeable improvements with the brass upgrades is the enhanced handling of the Redcat Ascent crawler. The increased weight of the brass components, particularly the rims with brass inserts, offers better traction and stability, allowing for smoother and more precise maneuvers. The added weight of the brass components improves the overall handling and control of the vehicle, making it easier to navigate through rough terrain.

When it comes to upgrading your Redcat Ascent 18 1/18 mini crawler, brass components can make a significant difference. The brass ring inside adds around 20 grams of weight, providing a stable and balanced performance.
Tune and Test
With the ability to tune each insert, you can easily customize the weight distribution of your crawler. Having more weight in the front compared to the back is ideal for climbing steep terrains. The tunability of the brass components allows for precise adjustments, enhancing the overall climbing performance of your mini crawler.
Enhanced Traction with Upgraded Tires
Pairing the brass upgrades with high-quality tires, such as the Pro-Line Trencher tires, can further improve the performance of your mini crawler. These tires provide excellent traction and stability, allowing you to tackle challenging terrains with ease.
Optimal Ground Clearance
Although the upgraded tires may be smaller than the stock ones, they help lower the center of gravity of the mini crawler. This adjustment enhances the stability of the vehicle without sacrificing significant ground clearance. The Redcat Ascent 18 mini crawler maintains ample ground clearance, even with smaller tires installed.
Impressive Performance
With the brass upgrades and optimized tire setup, the Redcat Ascent 18 1/18 mini crawler can handle challenging 10 scale lines with ease. The combination of brass components, tuned weight distribution, and upgraded tires results in improved performance and stability on various terrains.
