Overview of the Arrma Typhon Grom RC Buggy
Buggy, this thing looks really really cool and I think it might actually be more attractive to people than the granite. Grom was simply because this is going to be a bigger car. Now, before we talk about that, make sure you get subscribed if you want to get all the latest news, reviews bashing and crashing cuz were doing that here.
Features and Specification
This is a small scale, buggy its going to be coming with a brushed system which includes a 25 amp all in one ESC and receiver thats going to be connected to an SL L, T2 transmitter. That transmitter is pretty nice for what it is. It feels good in the hand, and it does have the ability to reduce your maximum speed, though Im not entirely sure that reducing the maximum speed on one of these things is necessary, because theyre not that fast.
Performance and Upgrades
That 25 amp ESC is going to be running a 380 size motor, which is going to be connected to the car through a fixed motor mount. Fortunately, most of the parts on this car are going to be very similar to the Granite, Grom and theres. Already, a bunch of upgrades you can get for the granite Grom, including adjustable motor mounts, as well as a ton of different brushless systems, of course, were going to be putting brushless in this car.
The Arrma Typhon Grom RC Buggy
The granite Grom was surprisingly stable for its size and being longer. I expect this thing to be even more stable, so we should be able to get some pretty impressive speeds out of it. It will be on a longer wheelbase chassis and almost an inch and a half longer than the Granite Grom. Arma seems hesitant to give this thing a scale, but I’m going to call it 1/14th to 1/15th scale, very similar in size to the team associated 1/14 scale buggy.
Stability and Potential for Modification
The longer wheelbase chassis should improve the stability of the car and may allow for the use of bigger tires, transforming it into a monster buggy. The buggy with big tires is always an exciting prospect for enthusiasts looking to push the limits of their RC vehicles.
Downsides of the Arrma Typhon Grom
Unfortunately, like the Granite Grom, the Arrma Typhon Grom will come with plastic differentials. While these work well for stock and mild brushless power, serious power upgrades will require differential upgrades. However, availability of first-party differentials and parts from Horizon has been a concern. But there are aftermarket options available for those willing to invest in upgrades.
Power and Battery
The motor and ESC of the Arrma Typhon Grom will also be powered by a 2s smart battery. While the included charger is adequate, it lacks information monitoring capabilities that are crucial for tracking the battery’s health. Enthusiasts may need to consider investing in additional equipment for proper battery management.
The Internal Resistance of the Cells
One of the most important aspects to consider when it comes to the performance of a RC car is the internal resistance of the cells. Without being able to track this, you may not receive early warnings when the battery starts to degrade and potentially fail.
USBC to USB Adapter
A notable inclusion in the new Arrma Typhon Grom RC Buggy Basher is the USBC to USB adapter. This is a thoughtful addition as some users had trouble plugging the car into a standard USBC charger. The adapter opens up more possibilities for charging.
Power to the Ground
The power from the battery is going to be delivered to the ground through steel plastic hybrid shafts. These shafts are attached to new wheels and tires that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. This combination is perfectly suited for a buggy of this caliber.
Aesthetics and Design
When it comes to looks, the Arrma Typhon Grom RC Buggy Basher does not disappoint. The body of the car looks impressive with different color options that are visually appealing. Arrma has been setting the bar high with their color schemes, staying ahead of the competition with each new release.
Clipless Body Design
The new clipless body design of the Arrma Typhon Grom RC Buggy Basher is a welcome improvement. The clips on the body are now easier to access compared to previous models like the granite Grom. This user-friendly design makes it easier for enthusiasts to enjoy their RC experience.
Upgrades and New Features
This new Arrma Typhon Grom RC Buggy Basher has a few upgrades compared to its predecessor. One notable change is the addition of a cooling fan for the motor, which is sure to please many users. The fan indicates that there is more room for motors in the car, potentially allowing for faster speeds for those interested in speed running. However, it is worth noting that the car does not come with a wheelie bar, which may be a downside for some users.
Pricing and Value
With the release of this new model, Horizon has also increased the price by $10, making it $139 compared to the $129 price tag of the Granite Grom. While the cooling fan may account for some of this increase, some users may feel that the extra cost is not justified. Considering that $129 is already a significant amount to pay for a small RC car, some may have preferred to see the new model remain at the same price point.
Overall Impression
Despite the slightly higher price tag, the Arrma Typhon Grom RC Buggy Basher remains a popular choice among RC enthusiasts. The longer chassis and cooling fan are welcome additions, and the car is still considered one of the best options in its category. While some users may be disappointed by the lack of a wheelie bar and the price increase, many will appreciate the improved performance and durability of the new model. Ultimately, the decision to purchase the new Arrma Typhon Grom RC Buggy Basher will depend on individual preferences and priorities in an RC car.
Conclusion
Once I get mine, Im really excited to see just how fast we can make this thing go.
