While browsing through YouTube during my break at work, I stumbled upon the Redcat Ascent 18 and was immediately intrigued. After finishing my shift, I wasted no time in acquiring the truck from a local hobby store. The vibrant colors and the overall design of the vehicle caught my attention, and I couldn’t wait to unbox it.

Upon opening the box, I was greeted with the Redcat Ascent 18 along with a 750 mAh battery, charger, metal gear servo, portal axles, and bearings. The truck looked even better in person than it did in the videos. The attention to detail and quality of the components took me by surprise.

Unboxing and Installation
I might have to there we go was able to get it off with my thumbnail and there’s our differential, not bad there’s even grease on there metal gears. I like it.
Oh um, yeah, easy peasy pop the new one on two screws and we’ll be in there. If you wanted to see the size comparison I’ll finish bolting that on off camera, no point of wasting too much of your time, but here’s an scx24. So you can see their their 1/18 scale is just about the same size as an scx24. Really not a whole lot of difference, my TRX 4M or inside the house, or else I do a comparison with those too. But I’m going to get these put on and I’ll meet you outside on the crawler course and let’s give it a run.
Installation Tips
Little quick note: when doing the front, you will have to take one of your steering links loose. You can move this back and forth and get your clearance, but, as you can see, our Servo moving up and down the upper hole for your differential cover is also a mounting hole for your servo. So just keep that in mind.
Test Run on Crawler Course
I just fired it up and set it down, had to run a couple of squirrels off the course I share it with them. They seem to really like it out here. Can’t blame them, but look at that modulation, flexibility, grip get around here on the other side and see if we can find a safe way down, that’s a legitimate little crawler guys let’s see.
Impressive Performance
Can it make it up this Ill back up a little bit? No, not only can it make it up, but its not even sweating well were seeing how it does on 110 scale portion of the course Im pretty impressed my TRX 4M didnt. Do this good out of the box. We being honest, I mean it did good, but not this Applause good. Not often you can go this far on one take first time out of the box.
Handling Challenges
This might give it some problems, theres a pretty big gap there Ill see. If I can hop it and it did right on up it, went Lets see we got the room to get through there, thats kind of a tight spot. Maybe all right nice and I hate to take my brand new truck up car killer. Cuz Ive really got to get a safety net or something but man we cant really test it good.

If we dont take it up it right reason, its called car killer is well when they fall its a long ways down to rocks yeah and up. It goes well weve made it up to the upper section, were 6ot privacy fence are just under 6 ft in the air right now. All right well have to get repositioned a little bit move around to this other side side. Hopefully, my arms will be fast enough. If it slides down not a problem, okay, guys uh, I mean thats an excellent first test.
