Speed and Durability
It was able to run 47 mph out of the box on a 3s battery and the durability it offered was off the charts for a car at its price range, certainly on par with anything made by Traxxas or Arma.
Unboxing Experience
But now we have the Hosim X08 and, if it’s anything like the X07, we’re in for a good time. Crack open the box and see what we’ve got. Oh, that is a pretty good look body and I’m certain there’s another one underneath it. There is another one underneath it. I actually think I like this one a little bit better, but they both look pretty good.
Scale Confusion
They claim it is a tenth scale and it is somewhat like if MJX were to make a tenth scale. It would probably end up a lot like this, but is it really a tenth scale? Comparing it to a Short Course Truck is a bit unfair. 10 scale short course trucks with the body on essentially makes them almost eight scale sized. So it’s not quite as small as a 12th scale. Well, let’s go ahead and give it to it, we’ll say it’s a small 10 scale.
Under the Hood
Let’s have a look under the hood. I’m seeing some similarities to the X07, but I am seeing some differences and oh, spare battery strap, that’s nice. That is one thing we did break on the X07 and the X07 came with one 5200 mAh battery. This comes with two 2600 hard case.
Hard Case and ESC
2S. Tyos hard case is pretty nice, its actually good for bashing. I like that. The ESC is a little bit different on this one, its still 45 amp and 3s capable, but its much larger its got a few more ports here the motor is a different color. I think the x07s motor was green. It does look to be pretty much. The same as the x07, otherwise, though, the servo on this one does look a little bit better and weve got a few more metallic bits on the servo as well.
Motors and Shocks
Ive always thought the motor was a little undersized for the size of the car and the massive diameter tires this things rolling on. So we are going to expect this motor to heat up a good bit, but I never had any trouble with the motor on the x07. So hopefully thatll be the same on the x08. Oh theyve even got Hams name on the motor this time. What a nice little touch! Nice oil filled shocks, nice, absorption and just like the x07.
Body and Durability
The Plastics are very robust, yet flexible and thats. What you want for some bashing and the x07 took some serious bashing. Hopefully, thats going to be the case with the x08 Im, not sure which body to run the somewhat Superman inspired uh color scheme or the watermelon blast over here. This body looks like it tastes like a Jolly Rancher. No, it does not.
Performance Test
There was a little bit of dirt on it too, its not the size of the truck that matters and its certainly not the flavor that matters either lets get out there and see how this thing performs. How fast is it and were going to find out right now and oh by the way, new main GPS and anyone whos been watching this channel knows why I love love these things, so so much because this is the toughest GPS you could possibly buy lets see How fast this thing goes on 2s and then on 3s, oh boy, it really wants to pull doesnt it. These tires are not the best for on road Speed. Oh boy, oh wait: can it wheelie on 2s yep? It sure can hey 30 mph on 2s, not too bad. Now lets go 3s, oh its going to be mean! Oh my god. Oh the GPS takes its first beating yeah, my goodness Just Let It Go off into the grass. Those tires are actually okay Offroad. Its on road, where theyre terrible now a tire change on the x07 made a massive Improvement to to its on road performance lets see if the same holds true for the x08. Those are my HPI jump shot tires. They fit perfectly: oh yeah, its a oh God. My God, I almost said its a lot better but Im not sure yet, oh goodness, Offroad this car is great thats. All it wants to do.
Unstable Speed
Speed running the CHEAP Brushless 1/10 scale Hosim X08 can be a challenge due to its instability. Keeping the car straight at full throttle can be a difficult task, as it tends to veer off course easily.
Off-Road vs On-Road
Interestingly, the car handles well off-road, providing a smooth and enjoyable experience. However, when it comes to on-road performance, the Hosim X08 struggles to maintain stability and control, making it less than ideal for street racing.
Performance Comparison
Despite its shortcomings on the road, the Hosim X08 performs admirably off-road, showcasing comparable performance to higher-end models such as the Traxxas or Arrma. Its durability is also commendable, as it withstands rough treatment without breaking down easily.
Tire Troubles
One of the drawbacks of the Hosim X08 is its tires, which prove to be inadequate for on-road driving. While they may perform decently off-road, they lack the grip needed for smooth handling on paved surfaces.
Durability Test
Despite the challenges faced during speed runs and off-road adventures, the Hosim X08 proves to be a durable and resilient vehicle. Even after enduring significant stress and impact, the car continues to hold up well without major issues.
The Power of the Hosim X08
Oh the brutality, it is mean Ill, give it that oh beautiful backflip need a toe starting to hear some kind of clicking Im, not sure if its a gear or a drive shaft but its doing something granted. This is a high grip surface and I am putting a real beating on it and Im being very Reckless as well beautiful back flips yeah.
Durability Under Pressure
I am brutalizing. This thing Ill give it that its tough, Its, not very stable, but it is tough ooh ooh uh. Oh guys, uhoh oh yeah sounds like a game over to me its one, tough cookie, though I will give it that okay, its a little bit worse for the wear now uh, something has locked up usually when a car will roll a little bit like that, and Then stop it tends to be something involving a bend in the center drive shaft Im, not sure yet exactly what it is, but thats what it feels like.
Surviving the Damage
As far as all the components goes, the car survived everything just fine front rear drive. Shaft seem to be completely perfect. Shocks are okay, a ARS upper and lower, no breakages so on that regard, everythings, okay, but we have definitely done something to the gearing the motor feels like its secure in place. So I dont think the motor came loose from the mount and it never did on the x07 either so Im almost convinced that Ive either bent the main drive, shaft, somehow or Ive destroyed one of the front or rear input gears.
Performance and Durability Test
I will say I did put it through a near skate park level beating without even going to the skate park, but I’ve got to say I think the X07’s a little bit better than this one. I know they’re virtually identical, but I had no issues whatsoever with the X07, no matter what I threw at it or what I put it through.
Build Quality
I like the look of this car better. I certainly like this body better. One of the common ailments of budget RC cars does have a lot to do with gearing, most of the time in terms of construction and just components surrounding the chassis. They tend to be every bit as good as name brand RC cars and this one’s no different, but every time I do run into a problem with a budget RC car, it almost always involves gearing particularly differentials.
Gear Issues
When the box says something about powder Metallurgy gears, you’re probably not going to have gears lasting very long in that, and this one did say that on the box, sadly. But it’s not over for this car just yet, because I am going to figure out what’s gone wrong, I am going to fix it because we still do have to take it to the skate park.
Testing at the Skate Park
The X07 was absolutely spectacular at the skate park and I just want to see if this car can live up in the footage you’ve just seen in the video. Yes, I was very rough with this.
The Break in the Rules
Car was breaking a lot of the common rules like being on the throttle, wow landing and you’re not really supposed to do that, particularly on a high grip surface like grass.
The Onroad Performance
As far as the onroad performance of this car, it’s among one of the very worst I’ve ever driven on road. I really hate saying that, because I love Hosim cars and I’m starting to realize the tires might not even be the issue. There’s just something off. The car just will not go straight, no matter how much time you spend trying to trim it.
Offroad Excitement
I had a similar problem with the X07, but a tire change completely cured that. The tire change on this car actually seemed to make it slightly worse offroad. However, this car was spectacular. It was lightning fast, ran perfectly straight, and was quite durable. I put it through quite a beating out there, and generally speaking, if you have a car like this, you are probably going to spend most of your time driving offroad.
A Flickering Hope
But you still want to be able to take it on the road sometimes and be pretty rest assured that it’s going to drive mostly straight. However, this one did not go mostly straight at all. In fact, it went mostly every other direction, except for straight, and then often just flipped over out of nowhere. We are going to give it another chance. I’m going to fix it and we’re going to take it to the skate park.
