A Fun Ride on Gravel
This thing is a pach. If you have a chance to get a buggy, if you have any kind of fat kind of gravel area, you can always put road tires on it as well, but its just so fun in gravel.
The Joys of Maintenance
Ive, just wiped it down with the microfiber cloth. You wouldnt know it was absolutely filthy from todays driving its just perfect its such a nice car. The diff was a bit of a pain I didnt enjoy stuffing around with that.
But then you know what thats not true. I didnt enjoy having a problem, but I did enjoy coming up with my own fix and so far my cheap little fix is held up just fine. I have nice diff action it hooks up. I havent had a single problem with it. It so thats great. The bearings are happy no problems there. I havent had breakages that I can think of Im just checking myself, as I say it.
Durable Performance
I’m running a 4300 KV motor. My friend Simon’s running a 4000. We’ve both been running on 2s and it’s just so nice. You’ve seen a bit of this, you’ve seen actually quite a bit of Simon’s BBX as well. I got some beautiful footage of that thing running and his setup is a little bit more quiet than mine, but these are both just beautiful cars.
Quality Components
The suspension’s great, the steering’s great, that little 12 Kil injora server is just perfect as well.
A New Discovery
There’s a JX server, where I can link in the description as a great alternative. I’ve just discovered it recently. It’s a Corless drift Servo, it’s really good 12 kilos, uh and yeah.
Trailing Arm Suspension
Watching this trailing arm suspension in operation has been a joy. The whole thing just works seamlessly. I really like the BBX. I’m so glad I had to go at it. It’s not the kind of thing I necessarily would have picked up, but I’m really glad I did now.
Key Features
This kit build was released in 2023. It’s a brand new release from Tamiya. Still made of plastics, but with a twist. For the first time in the kits I’ve built with Tamiya, this buggy features hex screws all the way through, which is great.
Unique Design Elements
One interesting feature of this buggy is its trailing arms. The trailing arm suspension on the rear, along with metal dog bone drive shafts, sets it apart from other models. It also has a rear motor since it’s a rear-wheel-drive buggy. The thin tires up front and the cute finish give it a distinct appearance.
Functional Build
In addition to its design quirks, the BBX also features a practical layout. The ESC is placed at a 45-degree angle in the back with a small fan for cooling. The battery is conveniently located for easy access.
Performance Concerns
During a live stream discussion last year, I mentioned experiencing some diff issues with this buggy. It’s something to keep in mind when considering this model for purchase.
Tamiya BBX Review: an Evolution
One really negative point on this thing is the BAL diff. I’ve had cars with BAL diffs before, and this is my fifth car with the BAL diff. However, it doesn’t have the Tomato Hardware. The main shaft that goes into the little blue thing snapped during assembly, leading to some frustration. It was either really loose and the motor couldn’t engage properly, or it tightened so much that any variance would snap it.
Replacement and Performance
After trying to work it out, I found that a cheap new bolt and nut did the trick, and since then, it’s been flawless. It now features a CVD on the outside and dog bland on the inside for the rear drive shaft, making it quite solid. With a 3 and 12 to 4000 KB motor on 2s, the performance is perfect. It still retains that snappy punch you get with brushless, but can handle the power without any issues.
Upgraded Features
The Tamiya BBX has evolved over the years to include new and improved features. The BAL diff, although initially problematic, can be easily fixed with a simple replacement bolt and nut. The addition of a CVD on the outside and dog bland on the inside has significantly improved the overall performance of the car. Overview of Tamiya BBX
A bunch now Ive been showing you footage. While Ive been talking, Ive driven mine with my friend Simons uh. He and I have been driving our together. Weve got the standard empty tires that are glued onto the wheels weve got, oil filled, aluminium shocks with adjustable preload, and you can theres a collar here where you can adjust its, not thumb screws, its just a color and it just kind of lets. You tighten or loosen the preload weve got no adjustability at the front as far as uh, cber or toe, and I think its the same story on the back, but thats fine, because out of the box, it just works, it just works.
Customization Options
You can paint it the way, theyve designed it to be painted out of the box or you can do your own paint job. In any case, there are a few pieces theres this guy theres the roof, and then there are the two sides and your rear pieces. I went with a light red to dark and then white to dark fade on the side pieces. Simons Car, which youve seen in the video as well, has just got standard, and I went with the blue and white on top red lid, which I think in Hinds side I should have made white and otherwise the stickers really just help fill it out.
Performance Upgrades
Now. Youve got a standard size steering servo. There goes down to your bell crank and then off. We go Im using an inora 12 Kil drift Sero, and I actually quite like that.
Design and Features
There’s also a little shaft here. You pull this little pin out and then you pull the shaft out and then the entire front end of the driver, and once that’s out the entire driver part hinges up and you can fit a full-size brick inside, which is this part of the car. It sits right there and it’ll take a full-size brick 2S. 2S lipo. You could set it up to run 3S, but truly, truly 2S is perfect. It really is. The ESC sits back on 45. In there the radio is underneath the driver. You run the antennas wherever you like, I’ve got mine out to the side, then up straight now. I put a receiver in here that has a gyro and it was nice enough, but then I stopped using the gyro and I’ve decided that I really enjoy this thing just without a gyro.
Performance
Let me show you what it’s like to drive. You’ve already seen since I’ve been talking, but just keep an eye on just have a look at how it drives and you’ll see it’s just such a fun. Little car. The rooster tails. I love it. What a silly car? Oh, no, it’s, not a silly car, it’s a buggy. Let me try more dryer, hey jumps or it steers like no other two-wheel drive Tamiya I’ve ever driven before it’s pretty rapid in that steering department. The steering angle is pretty nuts.
The Quiet and Smooth Operation
I love how quiet they are too. Oh they’re smooth, oh didn’t like that shy. SLP got Music him that was our most careful low speed collision ever interesting. We both actually just taking it easy for the first interesting.
The Building Process
Its a pain, the to build some of it. I don’t want to smash it straight away. Go on no, its good, its all good. I think 4000 is about right for this.
Performance and Durability
Oh such a rough landing, I can’t see M flash of lights and I knew where it was. Oh yeah you’re smart, putting the lights in. I haven’t done that yet, it’s standing up to it so far. Oh my tire’s coming off nice nth. You got some good driving going on there buddy, so that’s my take on the Tamiya BBX.
