NEW V3 Axial SCX24 Build & Review! Upgrades, Crawling & More!

Body and Electronics

The new V3 Axial SCX24 has introduced some exciting new features that have the potential to enhance the overall experience of crawling enthusiasts. One notable feature is the new color body options, which are now available in both green and gray. The metallic lime greenish Jeep body gives the vehicle a unique and attractive look. The inclusion of the new Spectrum controller and electronics adds to its appeal, providing users with improved control and functionality.

Gamechanging Oil Fi Shocks

Perhaps one of the most significant upgrades in the V3 Axial SCX24 is the introduction of gamechanging oil fi shocks. Upon closer inspection, you can clearly see the superior articulation offered by these new shocks. They make a noticeable difference in reducing flips and rollovers compared to the previous shocks. This improvement greatly enhances the crawling experience, making it more enjoyable and thrilling for users.

Potential for Further Improvements

While the new V3 Axial SCX24 is a fantastic crawler with impressive features, there is always room for improvement. Personally, I would have loved to see a clipless body system, similar to the Traxxas TRX-4 and other models. The addition of magnets instead of body posts would not only add convenience to the build and upgrade process but also enhance the overall experience.

Motor and Servo Concerns

One area where this new SCX24 model falls short is in its motor and servo. It still comes with the stock Dynamite motor, which is the same as what every standard SCX24 model comes with. While it may be sufficient, upgrading to a more powerful motor would have taken the performance to a whole new level. Additionally, the servo used in every SCX24 model remains the same over time, and they tend to lose their effectiveness. It would have been a welcome change if Axial had addressed this issue in the new V3 SCX24.

The Joys of Upgrades

To truly optimize the performance and capabilities of the V3 Axial SCX24, many enthusiasts opt for upgrading their vehicles with aftermarket parts. In fact, my own SCX24 is currently equipped with various upgrades. One of the first upgrades I made was swapping the stock plastic links with more durable metal links. This simple modification not only increases the durability and rigidity of the vehicle but also improves its overall performance on challenging terrains.

Enhancing Crawling Capabilities

These upgrades not only enhance the crawling capabilities of the SCX24 but also add durability to withstand tough terrains. I have provided a link in the description below for you to check out these upgrades.

Wheels and Tires

Wheels and tires play a crucial role in the performance of any crawler, and for my SCX24, I opted for a set with thicker lugs and a wider tread. By using my TRX4 and Bronco spare wheels with licensed BF Goodridge M terrain tires, I noticed a huge difference in performance. The original tire that came with the SCX24 was much smaller in comparison.

Improving Stability and Traction

To further enhance the capabilities of the SCX24, I added differential covers to both the front and back. This upgrade proved to be a game-changer, providing better stability and traction. The front axial weight distribution prevented nose dives during climbs.

Metal Hex Extensions

One of the key upgrades I made was adding metal hex extensions, which increased the width of the SCX24 by about 7 mm. This simple addition had a significant impact in preventing flips, especially when combined with the upgraded wheels and tires. It proved to be a winning combination for tackling challenging obstacles.

Axle Extensions for Improved Performance

Additionally, I added axle extensions that go inside the axle housing, adding about 4 mm of extra width. This increase in stability and width greatly improved the overall performance of the SCX24. Now, it can handle even more demanding terrains with ease.

Conclusion
