Borrowing Some Better Shots

It seems that the RC Hummer I have may have been discontinued, and finding parts for it is becoming quite difficult. But instead of giving up on it, I’ve decided to do something crazy with it. I’m determined to make this RC Hummer epic, even if it means taking some risks.

To start off, I realized that the RC Hummer could benefit from some better shots. So, I decided to borrow some from a reliable source. This way, I can showcase the upgraded version of the RC Hummer in all its glory. By including these improved shots, I can highlight the changes and improvements I’ve made to this cheap RC Hummer.

The Challenge of the Spur Gear

As I examined the RC Hummer, I noticed that most of its components were made of metal, which is a good thing. However, I quickly discovered that the spur gear was made of plastic. This raised some concern as plastic gears are prone to damage and may not handle the power I plan to unleash.

Further inspection revealed that the motor’s shaft size is 5 mm, indicating that I need to find a suitable replacement for the plastic spur gear. I recalled an old project I had worked on previously, which had a pad called “shugu” that could potentially fit under the motor. This gave me hope that the solution might already be within my reach.

A Stuck Motor and Lack of Adjustability

To my dismay, the motor in the RC Hummer was seriously stuck. It appeared to have no type of adjustment for different size pinions, which was quite disappointing. However, I soon realized that the new motor I planned to install could be mounted without any modification.

But there was another problem. The pinions I had were way too big, causing the drive shaft to be misaligned with the gear. This meant I needed to order some new pinions to ensure a proper fit and functionality.

Understanding Gear Pitch and Making Adjustments

As I delved deeper into the gear-related issues, I realized that the gear I pulled off the motor had a gear pitch of 6 mod. However, it seemed that the RC Hummer required a gear with a slightly different pitch. The teeth on this gear felt closer to 0.7 rather than 0.6.

This detail was crucial because using the wrong size gear could quickly damage the plastic spur gear and render it useless. Given the power I intended to unleash, it was vital to ensure that the gear sizes align perfectly and roll smoothly together.

Preparing for the Upgrade

With these findings in mind, I made a note to order the appropriate pinions and gear that would fit seamlessly into the RC Hummer. This upgrade was becoming more complex than expected, but I was determined to make this cheap RC Hummer epic.

By addressing the issues with the motor, spur gear, and gear pitch, I aim to enhance the performance and durability of this RC Hummer. With the right parts and adjustments, I believe this humble RC Hummer can become an extraordinary machine that will impress even the most seasoned RC enthusiasts.

Choosing the Right Pinion

When it comes to upgrading an RC vehicle, speed is often one of the main objectives. In the case of my cheap RC Hummer, I was determined to make it epic by opting for a brushless upgrade. Now, I found myself faced with a dilemma – how to achieve the desired speed.

The Pinion Predicament

I considered the option of using the pinion that came with the motor. However, I knew that if I wanted to truly unleash the full potential of this RC Hummer, I needed something more. So, I made the decision to order some pinions to give my vehicle the boost it deserved.

A Sizeable Challenge

In my quest for speed, I settled on a 17-tooth pinion, a significant upgrade from the original 14-tooth. This larger pinion would undoubtedly allow for greater speed, but there was one tiny problem – its size. You see, the shaft on the RC Hummer was initially designed for a smaller pinion, which meant that some modifications were necessary.

Custom Modifications

To make the larger pinion fit, I had to get creative. I had a few spare pinions on hand, just in case anything went wrong during this modification process. In addition to the pinions, I also had a set of tools to help me tackle the challenge.

One key modification involved drilling a hole in the shaft. I needed to enlarge the existing 2 mm hole to accommodate the 5 mm size of the new pinion. It required precision, but with patience and the right tools, I was able to successfully make the necessary adjustments.

Mounting Troubles

Now came another issue – the motor mount. The new pinion, being larger than the previous one, posed a challenge because the motor mount was non-adjustable. I needed to find a way to prevent the mount from sliding all the way down once the pinion was installed.

After some brainstorming, I came up with a solution. I had to position the motor mount in such a way that it would hold the pinion securely in place, while still allowing for the necessary movement. It took some trial and error, but eventually, I found the perfect setup that would ensure the optimal performance of my RC Hummer.

The Need for Speed

With the modifications complete, my RC Hummer was ready for its maiden speed test. I had high hopes for this upgrade, aiming for a speed of 50 m/h. Excitement filled the air as I prepared to put my creation to the test.

As the throttle was engaged, the RC Hummer roared to life and shot forward with astonishing speed. It was a sight to behold, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride in what I had accomplished. My cheap RC Hummer had been transformed into an epic speed machine, all thanks to a brushless upgrade and some creative modifications.

Upgrading the Brushless System

If you push it too far, apparently we found this random piece of plastic that should work all right. Well, you could have handed that to me, but yeah, that’s a nice thickness that we could just keep cutting pieces off of until we have the right thickness yep. I think five does it hes in some slightly longer screws that motor sitting up so much higher, probably should put some foam under here, since we had to raise this up so high.

Fitting the Cover

This cover fits like Music that everything seems awesome so far, but because we can, I’m going to go ahead and put this cover over the pinion. Is this the new motor? Yep, now we’ve just got the shocks, the ESC, the transmitter, the receiver, and we got to put a three-wire Servo on it just so happen to have another parts: car same Servo, but its three wires. This ESC could not be a more perfect fit and the on/off label even almost lines Music up, probably could have done that a little neater, but at least now it actually fits Music right.

Installing the Shocks

Front shocks are on now we’re going to shock out the rear swaps. Man, that’s better, might decide to tighten the preload when we get there all right what’s. It look like on 3s. Wait you’re telling me this thing’s even faster now, dude just shut up and hold Music on. I, no, I can’t even control it. I knew I should have tried different tires.

The brushless upgrade has transformed this cheap RC Hummer into something truly epic. With some minor modifications and a few new components, the performance of this remote-controlled vehicle has been taken to a whole new level.

Upgrading the Brushless System

To start off the upgrade, we found a random piece of plastic that seemed to be the right thickness. By cutting it down to size, we were able to raise the motor and create more space for the new, more powerful brushless motor. We also added some foam underneath to ensure stability.

Fitting the Cover

The cover for the pinion was a perfect fit, adding a sleek and finished look to the upgraded RC Hummer. We also installed a three-wire servo in place of the old one, which perfectly matched the new brushless system. Everything came together seamlessly, with precise alignment and minimal adjustments.

Installing the Shocks

With the front shocks already in place, we moved on to the rear ones. The difference was noticeable immediately, as the new shocks provided enhanced stability and better control. We might tighten the preload for even better performance in the future.

Unleashing the Power

After the upgrades were complete, we couldn’t wait to test out the new brushless system. Running it on a 3S battery, we were blown away by the speed and acceleration. The RC Hummer was faster than ever, pushing the limits of control. Perhaps we should have considered different tires to better handle the increased power.

The brushless upgrade has truly transformed this cheap RC Hummer into an epic and exhilarating toy. With its newfound speed and power, it offers an exciting and thrilling experience for RC enthusiasts. Whether

The Challenge of the Speedometer

The speedometer on my RC Hummer is not in the best position. It’s giving inaccurate readings and it’s affecting the overall performance of the vehicle. But I have an idea to fix it! I’m going to take the tires off another RC vehicle and put them on my Hummer. Hopefully, this will improve the speedometer’s accuracy and make the Hummer more responsive.

An Uneven Steering Experience

Unfortunately, the tires swap didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped. The Hummer now has a tendency to veer off to one side. The steering is stiff and unresponsive, making it difficult to control the vehicle properly. To solve this issue, I decide to stiffen up the front suspension a little bit. This should make the steering more manageable and improve the overall driving experience.

The Speedometer Falls Off

During my test run, disaster strikes. The Hummer goes under another vehicle, causing the speedometer to fall off. This setback frustrates me, but I try to remain positive and continue with my upgrades. The speedometer reading is not up to par, only reaching a maximum of 38 miles per hour. This is not good enough for me.

Searching for Waterproof Components

I suspect that the issue may lie with the Electronic Speed Controller (ESC), which might not be waterproof. To remedy this, I search for a waterproof ESC that can handle the power necessary for my desired top speed. Once I find a suitable one, I make the necessary adjustments to install it.

Relentless Pursuit of Speed

After three days of waiting for the Hummer to dry and installing the new ESC, it’s finally time to test it out. I have made some additional modifications as well. I adjusted the springs to stiffen up the suspension further, and I widened the lower angle to increase stability. I also suspect that the tires are unbalanced, as they seem to bounce excessively. I try scraping off some mud in the hopes that it will help.

The Final Push

In my quest for speed, I have even tried connecting two 2s batteries in series to achieve a 4S setup. However, this configuration led to a loss of throttle control. But all of these efforts will be worth it in the end. I am determined to reach my lifetime goal of surpassing 50 miles per hour in an RC Hummer.

And so, the journey continues. With each upgrade and modification, I inch closer to making my RC Hummer truly epic. I refuse to settle for anything less than the thrill of speed I have always dreamed of. Stay tuned for the next chapter in this exhilarating adventure!

Fixing the 4S Issue

The first thing we need to address is the 4S issue. The RC Hummer is not performing as well as expected, but before we dive into that, let’s talk about the stability. It seems like the vehicle is more stable now, but it’s still not going straight. This is definitely something we need to look into.

Suspension Improvement

The suspension of the RC Hummer has definitely improved. However, the back of the body broke off during one of the tests. To keep the body intact, I have secured it with a strap. It’s not an ideal situation, but we have to make do with what we have.

Battery Troubles

Now, it seems that the RC Hummer is not even working properly with a 3S battery. This could be because I may have overheated the motor while testing it with a 4S battery. This is something I need to keep in mind for future experiments.

The Steering Mystery

One issue I’ve noticed is that the steering does not return to center very well. It tends to veer on its own, especially when under throttle. My theory is that the motor is drawing so much power that the ESC is having trouble distributing it between the servo and the motor.

Upgrading the ESC

To address this issue, I have installed a new ESC that is capable of handling 4S batteries. I have it running in a series with two 2S batteries and so far, the RC Hummer is operating beautifully. Now, I want to push this thing to go even faster.

Testing the Speed

I am eager to see how fast the RC Hummer can go now. With the new ESC and the 3S battery, it’s performing significantly better than before. But I want to try it with a 4S battery as well. I’m confident that if I can handle the speed, we can achieve a smashing 50 mph.

Improved Performance with Brushless Upgrade

The RC Hummer has been given a new lease on life with a brushless upgrade. This simple modification has transformed the performance of this cheap RC vehicle, making it truly epic.

Achieving Unrivaled Speed

Before the brushless upgrade, the RC Hummer struggled to reach top speeds. However, with the new brushless motor, this small vehicle now drives straight and fast, shattering the previous speed record of 42 mph on a 3s battery in the grass.

Minor Hurdles Along the Way

While the performance has greatly improved, there were a few minor setbacks during testing. One of the shocks broke, but it was deemed sufficient for the time being. Additionally, some pins were discovered, possibly serving a recess timeout function. Another pin was found near the playground, adding a sense of mystery to the RC Hummer.

Adventurous Turns and Unpredictability

Despite these hurdles, the RC Hummer proved to be immensely fun to drive. The intentional turns added an element of excitement and unpredictability to the experience. It’s a shame that spare parts for this particular model are hard to come by, limiting the extent of its potential.

Exploring Limits with Added Features

Knowing the limitations of the RC Hummer, the owner took matters into their own hands to enhance its performance. A wheelie bar was fashioned, ensuring better control and preventing the front end from lifting too much on 4S power. The owner also made strategic slots to secure the battery with sturdy straps, enabling a much-improved battery hold during high-speed drives.

Challenges and Triumphs

Not everything went smoothly, however. The RC Hummer faced difficulties with steering, making it challenging to maneuver. The wheelie bar, initially thought to be the best ever made, turned out to be less effective than anticipated. Removing the wheelie bar altogether resulted in smoother driving and better control, indicating the need for further modifications.

A Bumpy Journey

Throughout the testing process, the RC Hummer faced numerous obstacles. The body of the truck was lost, and front-wheel drive was also compromised. Despite these setbacks, there was a glimmer of hope as it appeared that the undercarriage may be better protected with the recent adjustments.

Pushing the Limits Further

Undeterred by the challenges, the RC Hummer continued to be put to the test. With batteries running low, it reached a speed of 47. However, doubts emerged as the question was raised whether this number accurately reflected the vehicle’s capabilities or if it was just a speedometer error.

A Test of Resilience

As the RC Hummer approached its limits and the batteries drained, it seemed as though it had been reduced to a mere number on the speedometer. The owner pondered the significance of this close call and the need to continue pushing boundaries in search of new triumphs.

Redesigning the Rear Body

After numerous failed attempts, we refuse to give up on our mission to transform this cheap RC Hummer into something truly epic. So, with determination in our hearts, we decided to give it another shot. The first step was to redesign the rear body, adding a strap and some shims to strengthen the rear shocks. It may be a small modification, but every improvement counts in our quest for greatness.

Adding Weight to the Front End

To address the issue of the Hummer lifting too much, we decided to add some weight to the front end. By doing so, we hope to achieve better balance and stability during high-speed runs. It may seem like a simple solution, but sometimes the simplest tweaks can make a world of difference.

Embracing the Stupid Stuff

At this stage of our project, we were willing to try anything to improve the performance of our RC Hummer. It was time to embrace the absurd and go all out. We cranked up the music for extra motivation and pushed the Hummer to its limits. With the speedometer hitting an impressive 46 and the roof flying off, we knew we were onto something exciting.

The Thrill of Speed

As we pushed the Hummer to its maximum potential, we couldn’t help but be amazed by its durability. Despite all the mayhem, the RC Hummer remained intact. It braved through ditches and bumps, refusing to break. It was a testament to the quality and craftsmanship of this unknown manufacturer.

A Noisy Surprise

Just when we thought we had it all figured out, a noisy disturbance caught our attention. The motor was still spinning, adding an unexpected element to our experiment. While it may have been a bit unsettling, it only added to the thrill of the adventure. We marveled at the speedometer’s reading of 47, with a slight lag that made us question its accuracy.

The Final Result

Despite some challenges and uncertainties, we managed to hit an impressive 50 mph. The RC Hummer, transformed through our relentless efforts and modifications, surpassed our expectations. We invite you, our fellow enthusiasts, to share your thoughts on our project. Who could have imagined that this cheap RC Hummer had the potential for such greatness? We remain in awe of its capabilities and eagerly await the next modification to push its limits even further.

The Initial Experience

Look at all those different body options. This one came from Teemu, but it is no longer available. Have the initial video Linked In the description. If you want to watch it cuz, even in its stock form, for a brushed motor, it’s fun.

Improving the Tires

We took the tires off of here and gave them back to their rightful owner once scraping all that dirt and mud off of here. That seemed to make a big difference. They were ballooned out a little bit, but they did not look like they were bouncing out of control.

The Wreckage

Body got absolutely obliterated. The front bulkhead came loose, but it doesn’t look like it actually broke. It just pulled out of the screws. Broken nub on the chassis. A few other things for sure I mean it’s definitely total.

Surviving the Jumps

Oh, the center drive shaft is bent too, but nothing I don’t know, I don’t think any car ever would have survived that. My plan was to do some jumps and probably some pretty big ones, but I did want to do the speed first and the ESC. Didn’t. Even come untaped it’s still in there and yeah.

The Steering Improvement

I guess that ESC made a huge difference in the steering because, well, it did. We ended up losing front wheel drive and maybe that’s another thing that actually made it easier to control. We lost this left front axle and I don’t know exactly when that happened.

The Wheelie Bar Issue

This wheelie bar was absolutely terrible, pretty sure if I had left it up off the ground an inch or so it would have been much better, but it was just dragging and making it steer and this spur gear.

Overall, the brushless upgrade turned this cheap RC Hummer into an epic experience. Despite the wreckage and broken parts, the fun and improved performance made it all worthwhile. With better tires, improved steering, and the exhilaration of jumps and speed, it was a thrilling adventure. The wheelie bar may have been a hindrance, but the overall upgrade created an amazing RC experience.

Upgrading the RC Hummer: Making It Epic

When I first got my hands on the RC Hummer, I must admit, I had low expectations. It looked like a cheap toy that wouldn’t last long. But boy, was I wrong. This little machine surprised me in more ways than one.

Impressive Performance

I mean, sure, it’s a bit messed up where the pinion sits, but honestly, that’s to be expected. What blew me away was the overall performance of this humble RC car. I couldn’t help but be impressed.

Now, I’m not even sure what model this is. Does anybody know? If so, let me know because I’m seriously considering getting another one. The fun factor of this car is through the roof, especially when I upgraded it with a brushless motor.

On 3s power, this thing became a beast. Some people might say I can’t drive because I flipped it over countless times. But hey, I’m having a blast doing it. This car was initially designed to reach a top speed of 18 miles per hour, but with the upgrades, we managed to push it to 50 mph. Talk about epic!

Oversized Tires and Wheelies

We didn’t stop at the brushless motor upgrade, though. We also slapped on massively oversized tires, which not only added to the car’s aesthetics but also provided incredible torque and power. This made wheelies a breeze, and boy, did it turn heads!

With the increased height and the air flowing underneath, this RC Hummer was practically floating on the track. It was a sight to behold, and the feeling of control it gave me was unmatched.

Spring Upgrade: A Game-Changer

One modification that made a significant impact on the car’s performance was the addition of new springs on the front bumper. The difference was noticeable right away.

With the upgraded springs, I found that I could give it throttle more quickly without the fear of it flipping back too easily. It improved the overall stability and made the car much more enjoyable to drive at high speeds.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the brushless upgrade has made a significant difference in the performance of this cheap RC Hummer. Despite some setbacks with the body and the battery, the vehicle is now more stable and has the potential to reach impressive speeds. With further modifications and adjustments, I believe we can truly make this RC Hummer epic.
