REALLY WLTOYS? A New RC Car NO ONE asked for…

REALLY WLTOYS? A New RC Car NO ONE asked for…

The Disappointment of Yet Another RC Car

I think this is a car, no one really wants, and that is because there are already so many good options in this price range. Now, W toys were well known for the amazing 144001, which was a really good beginner friendly RC buggy.

Lost in the Crowd

Not only that, but it was also super cheap and since then we haven’t really seen many good releases. Now, when that little buggy was released, it was incredibly cheap which did make it really appealing. But since then prices have shut up these days, the brushless brother, the 14410, is actually a better option because it’s better value and you actually get more out the box.

Competition and Improvement

The 1248 was also really good, but again with so many competitors doing things better like mjx and ralo, I can’t help but sense. Wl toys have been struggling with SS, so many people have been asking for something bigger, maybe like a 18 scale vehicle or even another. One0 scale, vehicle and WL toys give us this.

An Unnecessary Addition

Why do we need another 1/18th scale RC car? Now I am a huge fan of mini RC cars. But again, there are so many options if this thing isn’t absolutely brilliant, well, there’s really not a place for it, and here it is. This is the new WL toys 1848.

A Child’s Toy

Now I’m, not a huge fan of the color scheme on this. This kind of looks like it’s just come out of a toy shop, and it looks like something my 5 year old would play with, but look we’re going to give it a fair chance.

The Body

The first thing that catches my attention is the body of this new RC car from WLtoys. To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of it. It seems to be made of plastic and lacks any significant detailing. The front bumper looks cheap and uninspiring. However, I do notice a large rear wing, which adds a touch of style to the overall appearance. It’s also interesting to see that the car comes with roof skids, which is somewhat unique.

A Clipless System

One notable feature of this RC car is its clipless system. Unlike many other cheap RC cars, this one doesn’t require the use of body clips. Personally, I’m not bothered by body clips on small cars like this, but it’s a welcome change if this new system works well. I’m curious to see how this clipless system performs during testing.

Included Accessories

Inside the box, we find a black and white manual, a USB charger, and a cross wrench. The manual is handy as it lists all the parts, which will be useful when looking for spares in the future. We also have a 1200mAh 2S lipo battery, which should provide decent runtime and potentially help achieve the claimed top speed of 60 km/h. We’ll find out later if it lives up to its speed claims.

An Updated Transmitter

Finally, the package includes an updated transmitter from WLtoys. I must admit, I’ve never been a huge fan of their transmitters. They lack ergonomic design and often feel cheaply made. This one seems to have some improvements though. It offers the option to steer with our thumb, which might appeal to some users. The foam grip on the wheel is a nice touch, adding some comfort during extended use. There are also steering trim adjustment and throttle trim options, allowing for further customization.

The Throttle Trim Issue

When it comes to RC cars, adjustments to throttle settings are often necessary to ensure optimal performance. However, the new RC car from WLTOYS takes a different approach with what they call a “speed switch.” Personally, I find this rather perplexing as it deviates from the traditional throttle trim. This change does not sit well with me, and I’m sure I’m not alone in my sentiments.

The AAA Battery Conundrum

Another aspect of this new RC car that leaves me scratching my head is its use of AAA batteries. Now, I understand that some devices require AAA batteries, but personally, I rarely have them on hand. On the other hand, I always have AA batteries lying around. Therefore, I fail to see the appeal of using AAA batteries over AA ones in this context. It seems like an unnecessary complication.

The Not-So-Useful Phone Holder

Among the features included in the new RC car is a phone holder on top. While this may sound convenient to some, I must admit that I have never found a practical use for it. Personally, I prefer focusing on controlling the car rather than using my phone while operating it. So, from my perspective, this feature doesn’t add much value.

A Disappointing Design

Now, let’s shift our attention to the visual aspects of the RC car. Upon closer inspection, I find myself struggling to appreciate its design. The body looks overly complicated, and I believe WLTOYS could have opted for a simpler and more aesthetically pleasing design. Additionally, the wheel design falls short of impressing me. It’s safe to say that the overall visual appeal of this RC car leaves much to be desired.

The Intriguing Underneath

To truly understand the strengths and weaknesses of this new RC car, we can’t ignore what lies beneath its body. Removing the body should be a straightforward process, or at least I hope so. With a couple of quick actions, the tabs at the back release, allowing the body to slide off. Voilà! The body is off.

Taking a look underneath, it becomes apparent that WLTOYS has incorporated an extensive LED lighting setup. Now, to some W toys fans, this may seem familiar. The reason for this familiarity is that WLTOYS has repurposed components from some of their older cars. While recycling components is not always a bad thing, I must admit that it gives me mixed feelings about the creativity and innovation of this particular RC car.

In conclusion, WLTOYS has certainly made some interesting choices with their new RC car. From the unconventional speed switch to the use of AAA batteries, as well as the questionable phone holder, it’s clear that this release is not what many RC car enthusiasts were expecting. Furthermore, the design elements, both in terms of the body and the wheels, fail to impress. As we delve beneath the surface, we discover some recycled parts from previous models, which may contribute to a lack of originality. Overall, this RC car poses more questions than answers, leaving me genuinely perplexed about WLTOYS’ decision-making process.

**Really WLTOYS? A New RC Car NO ONE asked for…**

**Plastic Chassis and Components**

When it comes to RC cars, the build quality plays a significant role in the overall performance and durability. Unfortunately, the new RC car from WLTOYS seems to miss the mark in this aspect. The plastic chassis and plastic components leave much to be desired. One can’t help but question the longevity and sturdiness of such a construction. It makes you wonder if WLTOYS really thought this through or just wanted to push out a new product without considering the expectations of RC enthusiasts.

**Oil-filled Shocks – Inadequate Performance?**

The inclusion of oil-filled shocks in this RC car may initially sound impressive. However, upon closer inspection, one can’t help but notice that these shocks lack the proper amount of oil. This raises concerns about their functionality and effectiveness in providing a smooth and stable ride. A more thorough examination might be required to investigate this issue and ensure that the shocks are up to par.

**Motor Power and Electronics**

A notable feature of this new WLTOYS RC car is its powerful 5000 KV motor. This motor promises to deliver impressive speeds and performance. However, one can’t help but question if it will truly live up to the claim of reaching a top speed of 60 km/h. Speculations arise about the potential limitations and hurdles that may hinder the RC car from achieving its full potential. Additionally, the inclusion of a 2in1 ESC and receiver, along with a small three-wire servo, is a decent touch. Nevertheless, performance remains uncertain, and it will be interesting to see how well it fares both on-road and off-road.

**Suspension Concerns**

Taking a closer look at the shocks, doubts start to creep in. Despite the claims of having oil-filled shocks, their performance might fall short of expectations. The fear of experiencing a bouncy and unstable ride arises due to the suspicion that these shocks may not contain the appropriate amount of oil. This raises concerns about the overall off-road capability of the RC car, as a reliable suspension system is vital for navigating rough and uneven terrains.

**Unnecessary LED Lights**

Another questionable feature of this RC car is the excessive use of LED lights. While some enthusiasts appreciate the appeal of LED lights, others find them unnecessary and even excessive. In the case of this small truck, the inclusion of numerous LED lights feels out of place and unnecessary. It leaves one wondering about the intention behind such a design choice and whether it adds any significant value to the overall performance and functionality of the RC car.
In conclusion, the new RC car from WLTOYS raises several concerns and leaves enthusiasts perplexed. The plastic chassis and components, questionable shock performance, uncertain motor power, and unnecessary LED lights all contribute to a sense of skepticism. It remains to be seen whether this RC car will live up to the expectations and demands of the RC community. As enthusiasts eagerly anticipate its performance in various terrains, only time will tell if WLTOYS missed the mark with this new release.

Questioning the Top Speed Claim

What I really want to do is see if it will actually do that claim top speed, so we’re going to do a 2s speed test now, right? So let’s find out how fast this goes.

Unfulfilled Expectations

Then let’s start the GPS. So what do we think? Are we going to see 60 km per hour? I don’t think we are today.

Technical Difficulties

Oh, what’s going on there? That’s not good. Now, I’m not sure what that was, but the diffs don’t feel good on this. They do feel really tight. Yeah, that’s not a good start. Now, I think it’s okay, I do want to see if we can get a couple of Full Throttle passes. Yeah, I’m not sure what’s going on there, but it doesn’t feel right and it seems to have cut the throttle.

Persistent Attempts

The battery is fully charged now. I do want to see if we can get to Full Throttle at least once. That is Full Throttle. It hasn’t cut out this time and again, right? So I’m just going to do a couple more Full Throttle passes.

Lower than Expected

I think we may see high 30s, but again, I think that’s going to be a push, right? Let’s bring it back, let’s see what we got. So, let’s see what we got, 29.

The Reality of Claimed Top Speeds

So this thing is going to be hitting speeds around the 30 mph Mark, which isn’t too bad really for an 11 18th scale truck, but it’s nowhere near the claimed top speed. And it’s not the first time we’ve seen this. We’ve seen this loads of times before. And I will say that it’s not only them that does it, loads of companies put full speeds on the box.

Off-Road Performance

Shortly after conducting a slightly disappointing speed test of the new W Toys 1848 RC car, it was time to put its off-road capabilities to the test. Given its small size, I didn’t want to push it to the limits, but even on the dirt, the car exhibited a bouncy ride. It became evident that there might be an issue with the shocks as they seemed to lack any sort of oil. This is a simple fix that could have been easily addressed at the factory, highlighting yet another quality control flaw from W Toys. This is a recurring problem that needs to be rectified as it is driving customers away to competing brands like MJX and Ralo.

Lack of Innovation

In 2024, W Toys needs to be more careful about the products they release. The market demands something fresh and ground-breaking, something that will truly blow us away. Unfortunately, based on past experiences, it is highly unlikely that W Toys will deliver on this front. They have displayed a consistent disregard for customer feedback and reviews. Many times, comments and suggestions shared by customers and reviewers are forwarded to the company, but W Toys rarely ever takes them into consideration. In contrast, brands like Ralo and MJX actively listen to their customers, making necessary improvements and innovations based on their feedback.

Conclusion

Despite my initial misgivings, it’s important to approach each new release with an open mind. While the WL toys 1848 may not appeal to everyone, it could still prove to be a satisfactory option for some RC car enthusiasts.

The W Toys 1848, priced reasonably, may seem like a decent option. However, I would advise investing a little more and purchasing a better-quality RC truck. W Toys’ track record of disappointing speed tests, subpar off-road performance, and lack of responsiveness to customer feedback should be taken into account before making a buying decision. It’s time for W Toys to step up their game, address their quality control concerns, and truly listen to their customers’ demands. Only then can they hope to win back the customers they have lost to their more customer-centric competitors.
