If You're On The Fence About This Radio, Watch This

Introduction

So thanks to hotti and the team at ralo uh for having an open mind to my suggestions, which were not invited, um – and I realized that you know hot RC have made this radio for them, so theyve got their own firmware. It is my hope that they will release an updated firmware on their website, were going to be able to, you know, do the update?

Mixing and Receiver

I pulled out the radio and quickly looked through the manual to find one specific feature – mixing. As soon as I saw that it mentioned mixing, I knew I had to order another receiver from the trs website. Mixing is an incredibly useful feature for cable tools, so I wasted no time in getting another receiver.

The 8 Channel Receiver

Today, I inserted the receiver into the Bandit and decided to take it for a little drive. But before we get into that, let me show you what we’ve got here. This is an 8 channel receiver with all eight ports being pwm ports. But that’s not all, there’s also another wire coming out of it – a voltage meter. This meter is designed to plug into the balance plug of your battery cable, and it can detect anything up to 6s power. It’s truly fabulous. What’s more, there are two antennas coming out of the receiver, adding to its impressive features. And lastly, there’s a bind button, although it’s worth noting that this receiver is not waterproof. It requires 4 to 9 volts of power and has a built-in gyro. When you first get it, make sure to hold down the bind button and turn the power on, as my radio wasn’t linked to the receiver initially. Keep this in mind if you want to achieve the full claimed 350 M range.

The Best Placement

To get the best possible range with this radio, you want to have the two cables upright, resembling the shape of a V but upright. This positioning will give you the optimal range for this style of radio. Additionally, this eight channel receiver comes with an adjustable little finger width thing that can be changed according to your preference. You can also adjust the tension of the spring and there are three push buttons for added convenience.

And there you have it, an in-depth look at this radio and receiver combination. With its mixing capability, incredible features, and high range, this is a radio worth considering if you’re in need of a reliable and versatile tool. So, don’t hesitate – watch this video and see for yourself the potential of this radio.

The Features of the Radio

The radio in question comes equipped with a four three-position switch, labeled AB, C, and D. This switch allows for easy navigation and control. In addition, the radio has a total of eight channels, numbered 5, 6, 7, and 8. These channels can be easily accessed using the center button and scroll wheel, which also functions as a clicker. The menu system of the radio is not complicated – it only requires four dou to operate.

The Power Source

To power the radio, a 2s battery is needed. This battery is plugged in via a balance plug, rather than a 1s battery. Additionally, the radio can also be powered using a single 18650 battery. However, there is a small issue that needs to be addressed. The Samsung 30q and n650 batteries, which are commonly used, have a flat top. Unfortunately, these batteries do not fit perfectly into the radio, as the positive side is recessed. To resolve this, a short spring is required at the positive end, allowing flat button batteries to fit properly. It is also worth noting that the longer 18650 batteries may not fit well due to the longer length.

Ease of Use

One aspect that users should be aware of is the toggle switch on the radio. This switch is quite stiff and may require a bit of force to operate. Even individuals with short nails may find it challenging to toggle the switch comfortably. In fact, I personally injured myself while attempting to manipulate the switch. Despite my short nails, the switch caused some discomfort and added to my existing injury.

The Compact Size

For those concerned about size, the radio can accommodate either four AAs in a row or a small 2s battery. The size of the small 2s battery is roughly equivalent to four AAs placed side by side. Therefore, if portability is important to you, the radio’s compact size will certainly meet your needs.

The Power Options

If you’re curious about the power options of this radio, let me shed some light on it. You can run the four AA batteries and then add in a 650mAh battery at the same time. Alternatively, you can also use the four AA batteries and a 2S battery. Additionally, this radio features haptic feedback and has a beeping function, which can be turned off if desired.

Voltage Monitoring

This radio provides voltage monitoring for your current radio setup. With four nickel metal hydride batteries, a voltage of 5.3 volts will indicate a full charge. So, we are on the “flat earth” side when it comes to battery voltage. Moreover, the receiver voltage can be monitored as well.

Power Setup with the Bandit

Let’s take a look at how this radio performs when paired with the Bandit. To display the power setup, I have attached the radio to the power line. When power is added to the Bandit, you can observe the screen and the systems coming to life. With a voltage reading of 8.2 volts, we can see that the battery is not fully charged, but this voltage level is about right for the setup.

First Impressions and Test Run

Now, let’s delve into my initial impressions of using this radio with the Bandit. Although I have had some experience with it while setting things up, this is my first time properly using it. For this test run, I have opted not to use the gyro, as I personally prefer it that way.

Ergonomics and Feel

The most crucial aspect of any radio controller is how it feels in the hand. In this regard, I must say that this radio feels quite nice. The spring on the throttle is particularly impressive and provides a satisfying experience while operating it.

Additions and Improvements

Aside from testing the radio, I have also made some upgrades to my Bandit. Today, I replaced the rear links with better ones that I crafted myself. This involved bending and fitting the parts to ensure a perfect fit. Overall, I am pleased with the radio’s performance and how it handles when paired with my modified Bandit.

As you can see, this radio has a range of power options and features, making it a versatile choice for RC enthusiasts. Furthermore, it offers comfortable ergonomics and a satisfying feel during operation. Whether you are a seasoned hobbyist or a beginner, this radio is definitely worth considering.

Convenient Design and Solid Build

The radio in question comes with a convenient little thumb thing, making it user-friendly for those who struggle with precise button pressing. This thoughtful addition adds a pleasant touch to the overall experience. Additionally, the buttons are comfortably positioned, allowing for easy access and manipulation. In terms of construction, this radio feels surprisingly solid in the hand, giving it a sense of durability that is often lacking in similar devices.

Impressive Haptic Feedback

One feature that sets this radio apart is its haptic feedback. Not only does it provide a pleasing sensation, but it also offers positive feedback with the help of a motor embedded within. This feedback extends to the braking mechanism as well, as users have the ability to adjust the width of the radio. Whether you prefer a narrow or wider configuration, the throttle’s function remains unaffected. This adjustable feature allows for a secure grip, ensuring a comfortable and balanced hold.

Ergonomically Sound

From an ergonomic standpoint, this radio excels. Its design and layout make it extremely user-friendly, allowing for easy operation. While the menus may require some improvement, the inclusion of a USB cable and a programming-ready port offers a promising solution. The receptive company behind this product also deserves praise, as they have demonstrated their willingness to assist and answer inquiries effectively. Their prompt and polite responses indicate a high level of customer care.

The Radio Features

What do I think of the radio? Look, I like it. I think the most compelling thing is that you get mixing, it’s basic, but you get mixing an ayro for a pretty low price, so that’s not bad at all. Again, Hot RC does the manufacturer so they’re not new to making radios. It looks good, it’s easy to drive, it feels great, and to have two power sources. Once you get an 8650 that fits um, I mean. What else can you ask for? That’s grass all right.

Functions

So well, smack out some functions really quickly. Model selection? You can have up to eight models. The name I’ve called my Bandit um and that’s. How many characters you get six characters to name it. Second page of five phase, which is uh Channel, reverse range, which is end point and I’ve emailed about changing this fine tuning is trim remapping. I’ll show you remapping remapping is simply saying what channel 3 corresponds to switch a switch B and then your ABCD buttons button Definition tells you it’s like the button mode, so momentary, press, toggle press so on off and then look I’ve set it up to shave.

The Functionality of the Radio

So a b c d, once dou3 theyre, using once dou3 Ive emailed them about this um and Ive, suggested um, uh, momentary or just press and then toggle and then three pause so that people will understand this. Let me show you so remember: a b and c once double third come back to the main screen here. Here is what the the channels are doing so heres once a is five. The contrast is quite low and Ive emailed them about changing this as well.

Three-Way Position Control

So this is just momentary B, is on off on off and then C is all the way down Center all the way up. So this is a a three-way position, so that’s what one double third is the rest of this stuff is to do with mixing. So Direction uh will give you different modes in a tank or like in a boat. You can change what some of the some of those will do.

Mixing Functionality

Um. We also have mixing for what AB C and D do. At the same time, linearity is actually Expo for throttle and Brake ESC setup were not touching that one, but that includes cruise control, which you can set servos. You can change the frequency and the maximum angle, 9080, 270, uh and that’s to say what kind of Servo you using for a ground machine. You just want 90, so you can leave all that and the frequency is to do with analog and digital again.

Pairing and Connection

When you first get your radio, you may need to perform a binding process. To do this, simply hold down the bind button, turn on the power, and go to the pairing and connecting section. It should be a straightforward process, but what if it fails?

Safety and Control

The “safe” feature of this radio is self-evident, providing you with a sense of security. On the other hand, the control option allows you to adjust the gyro sensitivity from zero to 100. Additionally, you can choose the forward or reverse direction, depending on your preference for the wheels’ movement. Not only that, but you can also control the amount of steering the radio uses.

Postback or Feedback

Although labeled as postback, this feature acts more like an alarm or feedback system. You have the freedom to set your battery type to “user” and specify the desired voltage for the alarm. Moreover, there is even a voltage offset that you can modify if you are not satisfied with the readings.

Interesting Training Capability

One intriguing aspect of this radio is its training functionality. It offers a master and slave setup, similar to having a trainer or a parent guiding you. The master, connected via USB cable, operates the controls, while the slave only has control over a couple of things. This feature provides a unique experience and adds a layer of complexity to your radio usage.

The Page System

The page system is perhaps the most significant aspect of this radio. It allows you to choose the battery type you are using, whether it be a 4S, 2S, or 1S battery. Moreover, you can customize settings such as haptic feedback, beeping, or even complete silence. Adjusting the LCD brightness to your preference is also possible, as well as setting the duration it takes for the brightness to change.

In conclusion, if you find yourself uncertain about this radio, I urge you to watch the video presentation. It demonstrates the various features and functionalities that make this radio truly exceptional.
