Thanks to Rochester RC, I received this model as soon as it arrived at their shop, and it has certainly made my day. Limited Availability
The Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary edition is selling out incredibly fast. As an enthusiast, I am aware that obtaining one might prove to be quite a challenge. This release is limited, and once the production run is completed, it will no longer be available. Although the kit itself is not numbered, its exclusivity is evident, and those who have been contemplating purchasing one should act swiftly before they are all gone.
A Lesson from the Phantom CRC 260f Anniversary
An important lesson can be learned from the swift disappearance of the Phantom CRC 260f Anniversary model. It is nearly impossible to find it now, except perhaps at exorbitant prices on online platforms such as eBay. The demand for these special vintage RC releases is tremendous, and with the Kyosho Optima mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary edition hitting the market just now, it is safe to assume that it will follow a similar path of scarcity.
An Upcoming Project and Raffle
Due to the arrival of the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary edition, another project I had planned has been delayed. In the near future, I will be revealing more details about this project, so stay tuned for that video release. Additionally, I am currently hosting a raffle for a squash van, which is open to participants from anywhere in the world. The Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary is here, and we are going to unbox it together. This limited edition RC car is a tribute to the iconic model that Akira raced back in 1987 at the World Championships in Romsey, England.
The History Behind the Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec
The original Optima Mid’87 was a prototype during its time, with handmade and CNCed metal parts. Many of the production parts were not even available at the time of the racing. Although it didn’t secure a victory, it did make a significant impact, with five of the top 10 cars in the A-main being Optima Mid’87 models. Now, in celebration of this mid-wheelbase classic, Kyosho has brought back the Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec as a 60th-anniversary release.
Unveiling the Sealed Box
Now, let’s get to the main event – opening up the box and revealing what’s inside. With the box still sealed, the excitement is building. While we unbox and appreciate the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec, it’s worth speculating on what the future might hold. Could we see more mid-wheelbase models, such as a long wheelbase version, in the year 2024? Only time will tell. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for more exciting releases from Kyosho in the coming years.

The Stickers and Tires
Let’s start by examining some of the components of the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary vintage RC release. As we open the box, the first items that catch our attention are the stickers celebrating the 60th anniversary. These stickers are the same ones you would find in the Phantom CLC 2. They add a special touch to the overall design of the RC car.
Moving on to the tires, we notice that they are the standard tires that usually come with many RC models. However, it is worth mentioning that in the legendary series, Kyosho has included these tires, which are soft and of great quality.
The Body Design
Now let’s take a look at the body of the RC car. Upon close inspection, we notice that the body design differs from the later version that was released. This particular body has a more sleek and swooped appearance. The roof is elegantly shaped, and the vents on the body contribute to its overall classic and attractive look.
Potential Modifications
As we delve further into the unboxing, we cannot help but contemplate the possibility of modifying certain aspects of the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec. The first modification that comes to mind is changing the tires to the vintage Spike tires, similar to the ones on the original model. However, for those who prefer the standard tires that come with the legendary series, there is no need for immediate modification.
Additionally, there is a sense of anticipation for potential reproductions of the pyramid Kosho tires that are used by Akira in his actual car. These tires are hard to find and possess a unique quality. We can only hope that someone will produce reproductions of these tires so that enthusiasts can customize their RC cars accordingly.
A Timeless Classic
In conclusion, the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary vintage RC release showcases the excellence and attention to detail that Kyosho has maintained over the years. From the special edition stickers to the sleek body design, every aspect of this model exudes a sense of class and nostalgia. Whether you choose to keep it as it is or make modifications, this RC car is a true collector’s item and a testament to the timeless appeal of vintage RC releases.
Green Rims and Painting
The Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary edition comes with eye-catching green rims. Many RC enthusiasts have been curious about the best color to paint the body to match these rims. Fortunately, the manual provides a solution. According to the manual, a mixture of 70% white, 30% green, and a few drops of blue is recommended. This offers a couple of options for hobbyists. They can use the Tamia color, which is close to the recommended mixture but not an exact match. Alternatively, they can purchase Tamia white, green, and blue colors separately and mix them according to the manual’s instructions. This process may involve airbrushing, which could be a welcomed challenge for those equipped with an airbrush.
Paint Challenges
One challenge that enthusiasts may face is finding the right paints for the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary edition. Neither Kyosho nor Tamia sell the specific paint colors required for this model, making it a hunt for suitable alternatives. However, despite the difficulty, exploring different paint options can be an exciting experience for those who enjoy customizing their RC vehicles.

One notable difference in the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary edition is the inclusion of a standard polycarbonate wing instead of the usual hard plastic one. This alteration adds a unique touch to the release, enhancing its overall appearance and performance.
The Full Carbon Chassis
Another highlight of the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary edition is its full carbon chassis. This feature sets it apart from other RC models and showcases the attention to detail and quality of the craftsmanship. The full carbon chassis not only adds strength and durability but also contributes to the overall aesthetic appeal of the vehicle.
In conclusion, the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary edition offers a captivating vintage RC experience. Unboxing the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary
Why is this kit so expensive? Well, you’re buying all the car uh carbon they’ve actually machined out out where the drive belt goes: wow, that’s pretty cool right?
Let’s open up the bag and have a better look because I don’t think that would be a very good unboxing video just showing you two bags full of stuff.
Bag B: Spare Parts
So we’ve got Bag B, a spare parts bag. It’s really nice to see that Kyosho always does this. They give you a little bag of little bits and pieces that you’re more likely to lose when you’re building it, and that can really cause you issues.
Bag A: Rear Differential
Bag A includes some shims. I’m guessing you’re going to be building up the diff. Yeah, it’s going to be the rear diff you build first. Bearings are all in there, shims and grease in the first one. Then move on to B, which is your belts. The bearings are in there as well, and you’ve got your motor plate.
Bag C: Carbon Tower
Bag C is a carbon tower. Then you’ve got your slipper clutch Allen key and a few pins.
Bag D: Knuckles and Rear Mount
Bag D includes the knuckles and the rear mount. They are beautifully made.
Bag E: Drive Shafts, Turnbuckles, and Steering Bridge
In Bag E, you’ve got your drive shafts, your turnbuckles, and your steering bridge. It’s all there.
Bag F: Shocks
In Bag F, we got all the shocks. The shock oil comes with 17.
The Unboxing Experience
Starting with the unboxing experience, let’s take a closer look at the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary. Upon opening the package, we are immediately greeted with various components neatly organized in plastic bags.
Precision Parts
One notable aspect of this vintage RC release is the attention to detail in the parts. The weight of the car, which is around 5 pounds, is significantly lighter than expected. Additionally, the shocks are of excellent quality and require early assembly.
All About the Accessories
Moving on to the plastic bag containing the accessories, we find a collection of front and rear bumpers, boiler mounts, body mounts, diff housing, rear hubs, steering turnbuckle ends, and other miscellaneous items. Some parts might be a bit ambiguous, such as the battery ends, but overall, the inclusion of these accessories enhances the overall appeal of the car.
A Challenging Task
One particular challenge that arises with the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary is matching the body to the rims. This task might prove to be a bit perplexing, as achieving a seamless and visually pleasing combination requires careful consideration and experimentation.
A Sneak Peek at the Prototype
In conclusion, this quick unboxing provides us with a glimpse of the beautiful new Optima prototype 60th anniversary RC car. Its construction will soon take place on a live show, but for now, the unboxing experience alone leaves us eager to see the finished product. As a side note, the PR racing also makes an appearance, fully painted and fully operational, surprising those who have been eagerly awaiting its release.
The Problem with the Electronics
When I took the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary vintage RC car racing the other day, I was greatly disappointed with the performance of the electronics. They were terrible, constantly cutting out and causing me frustration. It was a real shame, as I was excited to try out this special edition release.
Retiring the Car
Unfortunately, due to the electronics issues, I was only able to complete one or two laps before I had to retire the car. It was a disappointing experience, and I knew that I couldn’t produce a proper video with such limited running footage. So, I made the decision to push back the release and work on resolving the issue.
Swapping out the Electronics
The first step to ensuring a better performance for the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary vintage RC car was to swap out the problematic electronics. I decided that it would be best to replace them entirely to avoid any further issues in the future. By doing so, I hoped to finally experience the true potential of this special edition release.
Taking it to the Streets
Beyond just solving the problem with the electronics, I also wanted to get a real feel for how the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary vintage RC car drives. To achieve this, I plan to take it out on the streets and see how it performs in a different environment. This will provide a more comprehensive understanding of its capabilities and allow me to provide a well-rounded review in my video.
Anticipation for the Release
With the electronics issues hopefully resolved and a test drive on the streets planned, I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming release of my unboxing video for the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary vintage RC car. Despite the initial setbacks, I am hopeful that I will be able to showcase the true greatness of this special edition release to RC enthusiasts everywhere.
And so, as I prepare for my next racing session and complete the necessary upgrades and tests, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and curiosity. Will the Kyosho Optima Mid’87 WC Worlds Spec 1:10 60th Anniversary vintage RC car live up to its reputation? Only time will tell.
