Review: Reely Bash 6S 1:8 Monstertruck
Performance: Impressive on All Terrains
The Reely Bash 6S 1:8 Monstertruck certainly lives up to its name. Having tested it on various terrains – coral, gravel, and even sand – this beast of a truck cruises effortlessly. It handles like a dream, with excellent control, and exhibits remarkable stability even at high speeds. The careful weight distribution ensures that the truck stays perfectly balanced during jumps and keeps its grip on the ground, making it a delight to drive on sandy or grassy surfaces.
Tires: Exceptional Grip
One standout feature of the Reely Bash 6S 1:8 Monstertruck is its tires. These tires provide an incredible amount of grip on the sand and grass-covered surfaces that we encountered during testing. The optimal weight of the tires contributes to the truck’s impressive performance, allowing for superb control in mid-air. Whether it’s making sharp turns or tackling rough terrain, these tires have proven to be the perfect fit for the Monstertruck.
Durability: A Minor Hurdle
Despite the truck’s impeccable performance, there is one aspect that leaves a lot to be desired – the availability of spare parts. In my unfortunate experience, a shock absorber’s red end broke. It’s frustrating that Reely doesn’t offer this simple part individually. While I understand the challenges of stock management, this particular component should be readily available. It becomes disheartening to see such a minor issue hamper the overall experience of an otherwise exceptional product.
Unboxing Experience: Pragmatic Packaging Approach
One commendable aspect of the Reely Bash 6S 1:8 Monstertruck is the packaging itself. Instead of wrapping every component in plastic, they opted for a more eco-friendly approach, using paper instead. It shows their commitment to reducing waste and making conscious choices. The packaging design adds to the overall appeal of this product, giving it a much more premium feel.
The exterior and interior design
When it comes to the design of the Reely Bash 6S 1:8 Monstertruck, it is important to note that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some may find the camouflage design and wild appearance to be a bit too much. However, in my opinion, it is actually quite attractive and could have been much worse. The car’s body is well-made and sturdy, which gives it a high-quality feel.
Moving on to the interior, the truck features a classic layout with the battery compartment in the back, the ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) inside, and the motor and servo located in the center. The receiver is placed on the outside while the differentials are distributed evenly throughout the car. Overall, the interior is well-designed and feels durable, thanks to several years of development. However, there are a few exceptions. For instance, the rear shock pin holder is made of plastic, which is not ideal. I purchased a better one from Poss, but there are still a few minor issues.
Performance and handling
Driving the Reely Bash 6S 1:8 Monstertruck is an absolute delight. Despite its flaws, the car handles exceptionally well for its price range. Some may argue that there is a slight wobble while driving, but in my experience, that doesn’t hinder the overall performance. It’s important to remember that this is a monster truck, and it does a pretty good job at that. Let’s not get into a discussion about the exact definition of a monster truck and its axle setup. The fact remains that this car is marketed as a monster truck, and it lives up to that claim.
The electronics used in this vehicle are reliable and efficient. The Hobby Wing 150 Ampere quickrun ESC paired with a 2000 KV motor (with the original gear ratio) works perfectly fine on 4S, and even on 6S with a slightly higher temperature. However, the RTR (Ready-to-Run) servo is not up to par. Personally, I prefer the N imods DSC 45 mg servo, which is a great upgrade option and compatible with most commercially available cars.
Review: Reely Bash 6S 1:8 Monstertruck
Servo Issues
One of the main issues I encountered with the Reely Bash 6S 1:8 Monstertruck was the servos. They come with a 23 tooth pinion gear, which is not servo horn compatible. This means that replacing them becomes a bit of a hassle. Additionally, the cost of each servo is around 50 euros, which is quite expensive. However, I have to admit that these servos are durable, fast, and strong, with a torque of 45 kg. I haven’t had any of them break so far, but they are not the most precise ones. Nonetheless, they still function well for a monster truck, although I would not recommend using them for touring cars. I might give it a try though, just to see what happens.
Price Point and Customer Service
Overall, the Reely Bash 6S 1:8 Monstertruck is a solid and reasonably priced option. The regular price is listed as 29.9 euros, but I actually purchased it for 299 euros from Conrad. It’s a bit disappointing that the company doesn’t respond well to emails and inquiries. It seems like they always assume I want something for free, which is not the case. I am willing to pay for the parts, but I just want them to be readily available. Whether it’s 450 euros for the 4 rotans or 6, I’m willing to pay. But unfortunately, no one seems to listen to my requests.
Durability and Minor Issues
I took a closer look at the chassis from underneath and noticed that a screw had come loose. It was a simple fix with a 2mm wrench. However, it did cause a bit of a mess as a shelf toppled over when I tried to tighten it. Other minor issues include a broken rodend at the front. I managed to temporarily fix it by inserting another one, ensuring that the truck stands straight. However, this particular issue is a major disappointment for me. The other rodends also tend to become loose over time, but this can be fixed by adjusting the suspension travel.
Final Thoughts
Despite some of the setbacks I faced with the Reely Bash 6S 1:8 Monstertruck, I still believe it is a decent option at a reasonable price. It performs well and offers an enjoyable experience for monster truck enthusiasts.
