Unboxing the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis

As we eagerly open the box, we are greeted with the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis in all its glory. The first thing that catches our eye is the stunning 1950s Ford body, reminiscent of a stylish panel van truck. The rounded hood, unique tire housing shape, and low headlight and grill positions add to its vintage charm.

The body is made of lightweight and durable polycarbonate, ensuring that it can withstand the rigors of both on and off-road adventures. To add a touch of personalized flair, Tamiya has included squash-themed illustrations, the Tamiya logo, and triple pin stripes in gold, black, and blue. These stickers truly elevate the visual appeal of the Squash Van.

Review of the GF-02 Chassis

The GF-02 chassis is a gear-driven four-wheel drive system that promises powerful performance. Its four-wheel, double wishbone suspension, equipped with friction dampers, ensures a smooth and controlled ride even on rough terrains. The 123 mm diameter tires provide excellent traction, making it a capable off-roader as well.

One intriguing feature of the Squash Van GF-02 Chassis is the option for four-wheel steering. This adds a whole new level of maneuverability and excitement to the driving experience. Imagine being able to navigate tight corners with ease and precision, thanks to this innovative feature.

Clarifying the ESC Situation

Before we dive deeper into the contents of the box, let’s address an important detail that has caused some confusion. While many sources online claim that the kit includes an Electronic Speed Controller (ESC), the box itself states that the ESC is not included. As we haven’t opened the box yet, we are yet to confirm the presence or absence of an ESC.

However, whether it comes with an ESC or not, the Squash Van GF-02 Chassis remains a fantastic RC assembly kit that offers an exciting and immersive building experience.

Build Ideas

Now that we have a good understanding of what the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis has to offer, let’s ponder over some build ideas to make this RC kit truly unique.

1. Custom Paint Job: Tap into your creative side and give the body of the Squash Van a personal touch. Experiment with different colors, patterns, or even try your hand at airbrushing to create a one-of-a-kind design that reflects your style.

2. LED Lighting: Enhance the Squash Van’s visual appeal by adding LED lighting. Install headlights, tail lights, and even underglow lights to make it stand out during nighttime driving sessions.

3. Off-Road Upgrades: If you’re planning to take the Squash Van off-road frequently, consider upgrading the suspension, adding larger tires, or even installing a brushless motor for increased power and speed.

4. Functional Accessories: Add functional accessories such as a roof rack, spare tire carrier, or even a trailer hitch. These additions not only enhance the realistic look of the van but also allow you to carry small items or attach a trailer for added utility.

Let your imagination run wild and turn the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis into a personalized RC masterpiece that reflects your passion for the hobby. Happy building!

Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis – Unboxing

When it comes to Tamiya RC cars, enthusiasts are always excited to unbox a new kit and discover what’s inside. The Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis is no exception. It promises to provide a unique and enjoyable building experience for hobbyists. Let’s dive into the unboxing and see what this kit has to offer.

One interesting aspect of the Squash Van GF-02 Chassis is that it uses the same wheelbase as the CC02, a long wheelbase. This means that if you own a long wheelbase CC02 body, you can easily transfer it onto this chassis. The compatibility between the two models opens up possibilities for customization and personalization.

The kit comes with friction shocks, which have gained a bit of a mixed reputation over time. Some hobbyists find them adequate, while others prefer different types of shocks. Personally, I find the friction shocks to be lacking in performance and not my favorite choice. However, there are options available in the market to replace them.

I took a chance and bought a set of oil-filled shocks from option number one, hoping they would be the right size for the Squash Van. These shocks offer improved performance and smooth suspension movement. Upgrading to better shocks can enhance the overall driving experience and make the model more enjoyable to control.

Review

The Squash Van, or as I like to call it, the ‘Von Squash,’ has generated some interesting reactions among the RC community. In a recent YouTube poll, it was pointed out that the body of the Squash Van bears a striking resemblance to Tamiya’s Midnight Pumpkin model. It seems that Tamiya has gone from a truck to a van, from a pumpkin to a squash. A playful and quirky shift, to say the least.

However, I couldn’t help but notice that the door of the Squash Van features a photo of a pumpkin instead of a squash. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but to my knowledge, that’s definitely a pumpkin, not a squash. Perhaps squash varieties look different in other parts of the world, or there might be some unique reasoning behind this choice. Regardless, it adds a touch of humor to the overall design.

Build Ideas

Now that we’ve covered some interesting aspects of the Squash Van GF-02 Chassis, let’s explore some build ideas that can elevate this kit to new heights of creativity and performance.

1. Custom Body Design: While the kit comes with a unique body, hobbyists can take the customization further. Design and paint a custom body that reflects your personality and style. Experiment with different colors, decals, and finishes to make your Squash Van stand out on the track.

2. Performance Upgrades: Enhance the performance of the Squash Van GF-02 Chassis by considering upgrades such as a brushless motor, high-capacity battery, and upgraded electronic speed controller (ESC). These modifications can significantly boost the speed and agility of the model, providing a thrilling driving experience.

3. Off-Road Adventure: Take the Squash Van off-road and explore various terrains. From sandy beaches to

Unboxing: A Pleasant Surprise

Ah, would you look at all this squash band goodness here! I love when you just get this simple piece of paper on top of the squash ban GF-02 chassis. How cool does that look, alright?

Body: Neat Features

First thing we see is the body, and oh boy, have a look at this body! They’ve done something pretty neat here. The body is somewhat trimmed already, but hold the phone, it’s got gills. But they’ve gone ahead and pre-scored and pre-cut the wheel openings for you, so you’re not going to make a mess of them. Well, I always make a mess of them, but for once I won’t make a mess of them. That’s pretty cool.

Painting: A Recommended Color Palette

The manual calls for two colors. The main color is Cobalt green D, which is ME a ps54. I did notice some silver on the bumper, so you’re going to want to get some silver paint for the bumpers or black if you want to go with a different look. And then the roof portion, they have it in the manual to be painted PS1 white, but I’m going to go a little bit different, not too crazy. I’m going to go ps57 here, which is a pearl white. I think it’s more suited to an old school 50s panel van.

Tire Sniff Time

Is it too early for a tire sniff? No, no, it’s time for a tire sniff. These are nice, big blackfoot tires. Let’s see what they smell like. Yeah- oh my God, woo!

Review: Sturdy Chassis

Now let’s talk about the chassis. The GF-02 chassis is known for its durability and sturdiness. It’s designed to handle rough terrains and provide a smooth driving experience. The squash van body fits perfectly on this chassis, giving it a unique and stylish look.

When it comes to building this Tamiya Squash Van, the possibilities are endless. You can add additional accessories, such as roof racks, lights, or even customize the interior. If you’re feeling creative, you can also experiment with different paint jobs and decals to make it truly your own.

The Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis: Unboxing

This took 5 years off my life, and it’s definitely unlike anything I’ve seen before. The black fo appears to have a similar pattern, maybe even the exact same. It’s worth comparing the two. My Riri black foot has the same tires, but there’s an interesting difference. The tire on the black foot has a grayish color, while the one on the Squash Van is much blacker. It feels sticky, possibly because it’s been on the shelf for a few years. The potent smell just adds to the intrigue. There are four black foot tires included in the package. The wheels are white one piece wheels with a familiar pattern that we have seen before from Tamia. They also feature a 12 mil hex on the back, making it easy to interchange with other popular wheel options available today.

Reviewing the Chassis

Let’s take a closer look at the chassis. This is perhaps one of the coolest aspects of this kit. The massive gear box is the heart of the chassis. Just imagine the number of gears it houses, and the number of plastic bushings that come with it. It’s quite a sight to behold. To enhance your experience, I highly recommend getting your ball bearings ahead of time. Trust me, it will make a world of difference in the overall performance of the vehicle.

Building Ideas

Now that we’ve explored the unboxing and reviewed the chassis, let’s discuss some exciting build ideas for the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02.

1. Off-Road Monster: Take advantage of the Squash Van’s rugged build and unleash its full potential by transforming it into an off-road monster. Equip it with larger tires, suspension upgrades, and a powerful motor to conquer any rough terrain with ease.

2. Street Racer: If speed is your thing, why not turn the Squash Van into a formidable street racer? Upgrade the chassis with lower profile tires, aerodynamic body modifications, and a high-speed motor. With these enhancements, you’ll be tearing up the pavement in no time.

3. Rally Champion: The Squash Van’s versatility makes it an excellent candidate for rally racing. Install rally-inspired features such as rally tires, rally lights, and a roll cage. With its unique appearance and excellent handling capabilities, the Squash Van will set you apart from the competition on any rally track.

4. Custom Crawler: Flex your creative muscles by transforming the Squash Van into a custom crawler. Add larger, knobby tires, a lifted suspension, and a winch for tackling challenging terrains. Unleash your imagination and create a one-of-a-kind crawler that will impress both on and off the trail.

In conclusion, the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 chassis offers endless possibilities for customization and building. Whether you prefer off-road adventures, high-speed racing, rallying, or exploring challenging terrains, this kit provides a solid foundation to bring your vision to life. So, grab your tools and let your creativity soar as you build your ultimate Squash Van masterpiece.

Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis – Unboxing

Upon unboxing the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis, one immediately notices its massive two-piece design. The chassis and gearbox are integrated into a single unit, which may present some challenges for those who wish to upgrade the bearings after assembly. I learned this the hard way with my previous Tamiya Konghead, as I had to disassemble the entire vehicle to install the bearings. Therefore, I highly recommend acquiring the necessary bearings ahead of time to avoid such inconvenience.

Review

The kit includes various components such as body posts, shock mounts, and other accessories. However, it is worth noting that the vehicle comes equipped with friction shocks. While these shocks do the job of absorbing impacts, they lack damping capabilities, resulting in a bouncy driving experience. As an alternative, I have purchased optional oil shocks, which I hope will provide a more satisfying performance. I am particularly interested to see whether these shocks will fit well and improve the driving experience.

Build Ideas

In terms of the chassis components, the kit includes upper and lower arms, links, and various hard plastic bits. It is worth mentioning that the kit comes with non-adjustable links, which means the camber will be fixed. Additionally, the package also includes multiple uprights, numbering a total of eight. This leads me to believe that Tamiya may have future plans for utilizing these uprights in some other way with this chassis.

With this Squash Van GF-02 chassis, there are numerous possibilities for customization and building upon its base structure. One idea that comes to mind is to experiment with different shock options to enhance the vehicle’s performance, such as installing adjustable dampers to provide a more controlled and stable ride.

Furthermore, the beefy front bumper made of soft plastic material offers potential for additional customization. It provides both protection for the vehicle’s front end and an opportunity to add a personal touch to its appearance. One could consider adding a custom-designed bumper or even mounting additional accessories such as lights or a winch.

Overall, the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis offers an exciting platform for creativity and modification. With the right upgrades and customization, it has the potential to become a formidable and unique RC vehicle.

Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis – Unboxing

As we delve into the unboxing of the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis, we are greeted with various parts and components. The upper and lower arms, fixed links for camber, and a bag of screws and pots spark curiosity. However, if you were expecting a speedo in here, it’s not that kind of Speedo parts.

Bag C reveals springs, screws, body pins, dog bones, and other essential hardware. Moving on to bag B, we find a collection of all-metal drives that exude durability and quality. The presence of grease indicates the need for proper maintenance and lubrication.

Review

This chassis comes equipped with all-metal gears, especially designed for the differentials. The inclusion of gear dips instead of ball diffs is a noteworthy advantage. However, there seems to be an abundance of bushings, approximately 30 of them, and a few brass oilite bushings. Owners of this chassis might consider upgrading to ball bearings for improved performance.

One aspect that caught my attention is the motor, which is a standard mauchi. So far, I have not come across a speed controller, which raises questions about the power and control options available.

Build Ideas

Now, let’s explore some interesting build ideas for the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis. The kit does not come with an ESC (Electronic Speed Controller), allowing users the freedom to choose their preferred ESC based on their desired performance level and budget. This gives builders the opportunity to customize their squash van to suit their unique requirements.

Additionally, the kit includes a servo saver, a battery hold down tray, and wheel hexes. These components provide the foundations for further customization and personalization. With the right combination of upgrades, the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis can be transformed into a high-performance machine.

Overall, the unboxing of the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis leaves us with a sense of excitement and anticipation. With its durable all-metal gears, expansive selection of bushings, and the potential for customizations, this chassis offers an excellent opportunity for hobbyists to let their creativity flow and create a unique and powerful RC model.

Unboxing the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis

The Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis is an exciting RC kit that promises endless hours of fun and excitement. Upon opening the box, I was immediately impressed by the clear and concise instructions provided by Tamiya. These instructions are a great help, especially for those who may be new to building their own RC kits.

Reviewing the Decals

Inside the box, I found a bag of decals and window masks. While the decals were minimal, they added a nice touch to the overall appearance of the RC vehicle. The saying “pump up the good times” caught my attention and seems to be the motto for 2024. It’s a fun and positive message that perfectly matches the experience of driving this RC car.

Precise Sticker Cutting

Unlike some other RC kits on the market, the stickers included with the Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis are not pre-cut. This means that you’ll need to carefully cut them out before applying them to the body. Having a good pair of scissors, an X-Acto Knife, or a razor blade will come in handy during this process. However, the curvy shape of the body may pose a challenge, so using a hairdryer to soften the stickers and make them more pliable is a smart idea.

Building Ideas

Once you’ve completed the unboxing and review, it’s time to start building your Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis. Here are a few ideas to make the most of this RC kit:

1. Custom Paint Job: Consider giving your RC vehicle a unique paint job. Experiment with different colors and designs to make it stand out from the crowd.

2. Add LED Lights: Enhance the overall look of your Tamiya Squash Van GF-02 Chassis by installing LED lights. This will not only improve visibility when driving in low-light conditions but also add a cool factor to your RC car.

3. Upgraded Suspension: If you want to tackle rough terrains with ease, upgrading the suspension system can greatly improve your driving experience. Look into options for stronger shocks or adjustable suspension components.

4. Performance Tires: Swap out the stock tires for high-performance ones that offer better grip and handling. This will not only enhance the overall performance of your RC car but also allow you to tackle different surfaces with ease.
