This Is DIFFERENT! – FMS FCX24 Lemur Review

Introduction

The FMS FCX24 Lemur is an exceptional remote-controlled vehicle that offers a whole new level of performance and excitement. With its impressive features and capabilities, this RC car is truly in a league of its own. In this review, we will delve into the various aspects of the FCX24 Lemur, uncovering its strengths and areas for improvement. So, let’s dive in and explore what makes this vehicle so different and exciting!

FMS FCX24 Lemur Review: A Unique Crawler with Special Features

The FMS FCX24 Lemur is the latest release from FMS, and it’s a 1/24 scale crawler. While it shares some similarities with other FCX24 models, there are a few key differences that set it apart. Let’s dive into the details of this unique crawler.

Features

Like other FCX24 models, the Lemur comes equipped with portal axles and metal gears on the rear, and an axle-mounted metal gear on the front. It also features a two-speed gearbox and an all-in-one ESC and receiver. The slow speed control with the FCX 24 is exceptional, allowing for precise and controlled movements.

Oil Filled Shocks

One of the standout features of the FCX24 Lemur is the inclusion of oil-filled shocks. While this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I personally find them to be a great addition. The shocks are nicely damped, providing a smoother and more realistic movement compared to friction shocks. This is a feature I’ve been hoping for in an FCX24 model, and I’m pleased to see that FMS has included it with the Lemur.

Unique Rock Bouncer Body

The Lemur sports a different kind of Rock Bouncer body, which may not appeal to everyone. However, I find it adds a splash of color and makes the crawler stand out. The decals and overall design give it a distinctive look, and the incorporation of a roll cage adds to its rock racer style.

The FMS FCX24 Lemur: A Unique and Exciting RC Vehicle

When it comes to remote control vehicles, the FMS FCX24 Lemur stands out from the crowd. With its distinctive design and impressive features, this RC vehicle is truly different from anything you’ve seen before. Let’s take a closer look at what makes the Lemur so special.

A Lightweight and Flexible Build

One of the first things you’ll notice about the Lemur is its lightweight construction. Made entirely of nylon, this RC vehicle is surprisingly light, making it nimble and easy to maneuver. In fact, the driver is a two-piece structure, which allows you to turn their heads as well, adding to the interactive experience.

A Unique Lighting Setup

The Lemur features a roof light as its only source of illumination. While there are holes in the front for front lights, there are no actual lights in that area. This design choice gives the Lemur a sleek and minimalistic appearance, showcasing its modern and futuristic look.

Impressive Wheels and Tires

One of the standout features of the Lemur is its large wheels and tires. This allows for impressive ground clearance, making it perfect for off-road adventures. However, due to the high center of gravity caused by these wheels, the Lemur may tip over more easily. It’s a trade-off for the increased capability, adding a bit of excitement and unpredictability to the driving experience.

A Versatile Performance

Although the tread pattern on the wheels might not be the best, the Lemur still delivers an enjoyable driving experience. Its 18th scale wheels and tires perform well on various terrains, and despite the dirt on the tires from previous use, it continues to deliver impressive performance. Whether you’re tackling rocks or navigating through challenging obstacles, the Lemur is up for the task.

Effortless Control and Convenience

The Lemur comes with the tried and tested FMS transmitter, delivering a seamless and user-friendly experience. The transmitter is small and compact, fitting comfortably in your hand. The foam grip on the wheel ensures precise control, even when driving with one hand. Additionally, the three-channel transmitter allows for different controls, including speed adjustments and the ability to turn lights on and off with the bind button.

The FMS FCX24 Lemur is a truly remarkable RC vehicle that brings a fresh perspective to the world of remote control vehicles. Its unique design, lightweight build, impressive wheels, and convenient controls make it a standout choice for enthusiasts. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced RC enthusiast looking for something different, the Lemur is definitely worth a closer look.

FMS FCX24 Lemur Controller

The FMS FCX24 Lemur comes with a compact yet functional controller. It allows you to switch between forward, brake, reverse, and other settings effortlessly. The controller also features steering and throttle trim adjustments, providing you with complete control over the vehicle. The design of the controller is quite appealing and it feels comfortable in the hand. Along with the controller, you also receive the usual FMS 2 Amp USB charger, a wheel, a hex tool, a spring collar, and a manual.

Battery Placement

One of the standout features of the FMS FCX24 Lemur is its battery placement. The battery slides into a small tray at the back of the vehicle. Initially, I was skeptical about this design, thinking that the battery would frequently come loose. However, to my surprise, it holds the battery securely. You can easily remove the battery by pulling it out when needed. The vehicle comes with a 2s lipo 308 milliamp hour 5c battery, which provides sufficient power for your adventures.

Easy Setup and Usage

Setting up the FMS FCX24 Lemur is a breeze. Simply plug in your battery, turn on the power button located conveniently on the side, and you’re ready to go. The controller binding process is straightforward too – just press the bind button to activate the roof light. Speaking of the light, it emits a decent amount of brightness, without overpowering your surroundings. Additionally, the vehicle boasts a reliable metal gear steering servo, which ensures smooth and precise control. Comparing it to other FCX 24 models, the Lemur offers ample steering angle for its size.

The FMS FCX24 Lemur Review: A Different Kind of Upgrade

Enhanced Suspension: Oil-Filled Shocks

When it comes to off-road vehicles like the FMS FCX24 Lemur, suspension plays a crucial role in determining the overall performance. Unlike the Smasher, which comes equipped with friction shocks, the Lemur boasts oil-filled shocks. This upgrade allows for better shock absorption and improved stability on rocky terrains. In comparison to my K5 Blazer, which also features oil-filled shocks, I find the Lemur’s suspension to be more advanced and reliable.

Ground Clearance: A Key Advantage

One notable feature of the Lemur is its impressive ground clearance. This makes it an ideal choice for tackling challenging trails that require substantial ground clearance for maneuverability. If you’re someone who enjoys testing your skills on rugged terrains with tricky routes, the Lemur could be a perfect companion. Its ability to navigate obstacles with ease is truly remarkable.

A Unique Upgrade for Adventurers

Although the Lemur may not belong to FMS’s lineup of scale rigs like the FCX 18 lc80 and the Blazer, it offers a different kind of adventure. With its upgrade options, such as swapping out the wheels and tires for improved performance, the Lemur can transform into a formidable off-road rig. While it may not strive for sheer realism like its scale counterparts, it excels as a fun and exciting companion for off-road enthusiasts.

An Unconventional Design

It’s important to note that the Lemur’s top-heavy design may pose some challenges on the trails. Due to its higher center of gravity, it may struggle to maintain stability on rough terrains. However, with proper technique and control, this issue can be overcome. It’s crucial to remain aware of the Lemur’s limitations and adjust your driving style accordingly.

Tires Struggling for Grip

Those tires are struggling for grip. I mean normally to get up there. To be honest, we need a bit of wheel speed unless you’ve got like super grippy tires and a decent bit of low down weight.

Testing the Tires

So let’s try with a bit of wheel speed, nice. We did make it. Although, uh, we got ourselves stuck already clear up, nice see, we can go nice and slow up here see what these tires are like. Not bad, not bad.

Efficiency of the Shocks

You can see those oil fill shocks are doing their job dampening the suspension there as it came down. You know it’s not really bouncy or anything, definitely more stable. You know I mean okay, they’ve only got a tiny bit of oil in them, but uh, you know its better than nothing and better than fraction shocks in my opinion.

The Challenge of Climbing

Now I very much doubt these tires are going to get us up here, especially because it’s raining today, as well, so there’s a little bit of dampness but uh let’s give it a try. We’ll try nice and slow, we might have to wheel speed it up better. You can see we’re struggling straight away.

Pushing Over and Lack of Grip

Let’s move across to the side, this is pushing over just trying to lift the front end. Let’s try a different angle. Yeah, you can see those tires and you see, it’s just shifting over, it’s just pushing itself over, just doesn’t really have a lot of grip on those tires.

Experimenting with Wheel Speed

Let’s try a bit of wheel speed, see if we can get up there.

The Top Heavy Lemur

Oh yeah, it’s definitely top-heavy. Those tires seem to be struggling for grip. The Lemur boasts an impressive ground clearance, but unfortunately, the tires are not up to par. This results in a high center of gravity, which can be a challenge. However, with some improvements like better tires and redistributing the weight lower down, this little rock crawler could excel.

Impressive Clearance

The Lemur offers a significant amount of ground clearance. Its massive approach and departure angles make it an enticing option for rock crawling enthusiasts. With a few modifications, this vehicle could prove to be a worthy competitor in this field. Removing the front bumper might be a good idea to enhance its clearance even further.

Struggling for Grip

As we can see, the tires of the Lemur are having a hard time finding traction. While most vehicles can handle this terrain with relative ease, the Lemur is struggling. However, it showcases the typical slow-speed control we expect from an FCX 24 model.

Potential at the Beach

Given its ground clearance, the Lemur might have an advantage when it comes to driving on sandy beaches. With better tires that provide more traction, it could navigate these challenging surfaces with ease. It seems the seagulls think so too!

A Bit of Flex

Despite its struggles, the Lemur still offers a nice bit of flex. It manages to handle the obstacles with some degree of agility. With the right modifications and improvements, this vehicle could find its place among other capable rock crawlers.

A Conclusion?

Through various challenges and obstacles, the Lemur shows promise. While it may not be perfect in its current state, there is potential for it to be a formidable rock crawler. With better tires, improved weight distribution, and perhaps a few other adjustments, this vehicle could really shine. If you’re someone who enjoys off-roading adventures, the Lemur might be worth considering.

The Tire Grip Issue

The FMS FCX24 Lemur is an impressive RC car with its oil-filled shocks and overall design. However, one aspect that is causing some concern is its tire grip. The tires seem to be holding back the performance of the car, resulting in a bit of instability. With its high center of gravity, the Lemur tends to tip over easily, especially when compared to other FCX 24 models.

Potential for Upgrades

Despite the tire grip issue, the FMS FCX24 Lemur still has a lot of potential. It can be seen as a “upgrade ready rig,” meaning that with some modifications, it has the capacity to perform exceptionally well. For those who enjoy fast-paced driving, jumping, and tackling obstacles, the Lemur can provide great entertainment. However, if you intend to use it as a crawler, some upgrades are necessary.

Low Down Weight and Better Tires

To enhance the performance of the Lemur as a crawler, two key improvements are recommended. First, adding a bit of low down weight can help stabilize the car and prevent tipping over. This could be achieved by fine-tuning the balance and weight distribution of the vehicle. Second, replacing the tires with ones that offer better grip will significantly improve the crawling ability of the Lemur. The tires on other FCX 24 models, like the Blazer and Power Wagon, are considered to be superior in terms of performance.

Power Wagon Potential

On a positive note, the FMS FCX24 Lemur shares some similarities with the Power Wagon. Both cars boast ample ground clearance, which is advantageous for off-road driving and conquering challenging terrains. However, to reach the full potential of the Power Wagon, it requires a lighter body and better tires — aspects that the Lemur can benefit from as well.

Overall, the FMS FCX24 Lemur is a unique RC car with its own set of strengths and areas for improvements. While the tire grip issue may hinder its performance as a crawler, the Lemur still offers plenty of fun and excitement for those seeking speed and jumps. With some upgrades focused on weight distribution and tire choice, the Lemur has the potential to match the performance of its FCX 24 counterparts and even reach the level of the Power Wagon.

Performance Upgrades

When it comes to RC cars, the ability to upgrade and enhance performance is always a welcome feature. The FCX24 Lemur offers this option, allowing you to optimize its performance to suit your preferences. The reviewer mentions the possibility of adding better wheels and tires, as well as incorporating low down weight. These upgrades can have a significant impact on the overall performance, allowing for better traction, improved handling, and increased speed. It would be interesting to see how these upgrades would affect the Lemur’s performance in a follow-up video.

Unconventional Design

One striking aspect of the FCX24 Lemur is its unconventional design. As the reviewer points out, ditching the front bumper creates a unique appearance that sets it apart from other RC cars on the market. This bold design choice not only adds visual appeal but also has the potential to enhance the vehicle’s performance. By eliminating excess weight at the front, the Lemur may benefit from improved balance and maneuverability, making it a real standout in terms of design and functionality.

While it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I appreciate the inclusion of these features for those who prefer a different look and smoother performance. Overall, the FCX24 Lemur is a solid choice for crawler enthusiasts looking for something a bit different.
