New Mini Brushless Ready to Run
The 2023 Mini Nationals Mini JXT Spec Champion is a fun race held at RC Madness in Enfield, Connecticut, which is known as the capital for Minis. Every year, this race attracts numerous drivers who have an incredible time racing various types of Minis. Naturally, since Losi is well-known for its race-inspired vehicles, you’ll see many Mini Tes and Mini AXTs at this event. Personally, I love racing in the Mini B class, but there has always been one element missing among the Minis – a brushless ready-to-run option.
A Familiar Look
Introducing the new Mini Brushless Ready to Run buggy! This package comes with everything you need to run the buggy right out of the box – a battery charger, a doublea radio system, and, most importantly, a fast brushless motor. The first thing you’ll notice about this buggy is its instantly familiar appearance. It features a paint scheme similar to the Mini TE Brushless version, with a yellow, orange, and red design, as well as a blue version. The paint has a matte finish, giving it a sleek look. Even the spoiler is painted, with stripes extending onto the wing, adding a cool touch. The body is similar to the one we saw on the Mini Brush version, with a single body clip in the back for easy removal.
Not Just a Brushless System
But the new Mini Brushless Ready to Run buggy is not just about the brushless system. Losi has made some subtle changes to enhance its performance.
Driving Experience
To truly understand the capabilities of this buggy, I headed back to RC Madness to put it to the test. As soon as I took it out on the track, I immediately noticed its speed. This thing can really move! It accelerates quickly and maintains a high speed throughout the race. I could confidently maneuver through tight corners and take on jumps without losing speed or control. The brushless motor provides a level of power that is truly impressive for a mini RC buggy.
Improved Handling
In addition to its speed, the new Mini Brushless Ready to Run buggy offers improved handling. The suspension setup on this buggy is well-tuned, allowing for smooth and precise steering. The shocks absorb bumps and jumps effortlessly, ensuring a stable and balanced ride. Even during high-speed turns, the buggy remains planted to the ground, allowing for excellent control. Losi has truly put a lot of thought and effort into fine-tuning the handling of this vehicle.
Durability and Stability
One important aspect of any RC vehicle is its durability, and the new Mini Brushless Ready to Run buggy doesn’t disappoint in this area. It is built to withstand the rigors of intense racing and rough terrains. The chassis is sturdy, and the suspension components are solidly built. This buggy can handle some serious abuse without breaking down. Additionally, its stability is remarkable, especially when racing on uneven surfaces. It stays on track and doesn’t lose balance easily.
The Modified Chassis
When looking at the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR, one can easily mistake it for a standard mini buggy at first glance. However, there are a few noticeable changes that set it apart. Let’s delve into the modifications and upgrades made to this RC buggy.
Front Bulkhead and Adjustments
Starting with the front bulkhead, one can observe that it is slightly thicker compared to its predecessors. If you happen to possess some aluminum parts that were originally offered by Losi for this model, it is recommended to transfer them over to the new buggy. According to sources, all the aftermarket parts designed for previous models are compatible with this one. The ball cups have also been revised, ensuring better overall performance. Additionally, the shocks have been upgraded to oil-filled shocks with larger spring perches, providing a more secure fit and preventing any unexpected mishaps.
Improved Suspension
Moving on to the suspension, little has changed in the rear except for the larger spring perches on the shocks. The arms remain the same, incorporating adjustable tie rods alongside improved ball cups. However, the front suspension has taken a notable step forward with the introduction of rib tires. This is a delightful development, as rib tires offer better traction and control, particularly on loose surfaces. The rubber compound used for the rib tires feels promising and is sure to improve overall performance.
Mounting Bar Sway Set
One of the most welcomed changes on the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR is the addition of a mounting bar sway set at the back of the transmission case. This modification allows for an easier installation of a sway bar, which is particularly beneficial for those who enjoy modifying their buggies. Adding a sway bar can greatly enhance stability and cornering abilities, taking the overall experience to a whole new level.
The Chassis and Servo
The Losi Mini B Brushless RTR boasts a familiar chassis design, with its aluminum battery mounts positioned in the center while being held down by a rubber strap. The front of the chassis features the same steering cranks as seen on the mini drag car. However, a notable change can be observed in the servo saver. Unlike the previous version, this one holds center really well, enhancing the overall performance of the vehicle.
Speaking of the servo, the Losi Mini B now comes equipped with the SX 108 Servo, which is a significant improvement over its predecessor. This upgraded servo ensures smoother action and better control, enhancing the driving experience for enthusiasts.
Transmission and Slipper Assembly
Moving on to the transmission, it remains mostly unchanged from the previous version, except for the slipper assembly. Losi has made significant improvements by incorporating improved plates into the slipper assembly, resulting in a much smoother action. This is particularly crucial considering the presence of a brushless motor system, as it ensures that the slipper pads do not wear down excessively.
Upgraded Electronics
One of the striking changes in the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR lies in its electronics. Losi has replaced almost all the electronics in this model, offering enthusiasts a better overall experience. The inclusion of the sr315 receiver is particularly remarkable, as it proves to be a fantastic addition to the vehicle. With the ability to plug transponders directly into the receiver, enthusiasts can now enjoy a more streamlined and convenient setup.
Furthermore, the brushless system in the Losi Mini B features the Spectrum 6000 KV motor, which comes as a two-in-one combo. This means that the speed controller is housed within a compact setup, with an ic2 plug ensuring easy connectivity. With this brushless system, the Mini B Brushless RTR is expected to deliver exceptional speed and power, giving enthusiasts the adrenaline rush they crave.
New Tires for Better Performance
The Losi Mini B Brushless RTR also introduces new tires at the rear, known as “big shots”. These tires differ from the ProLine prism tires and feature a distinct compound and pin pattern. The purpose of these tires is to ensure optimum traction and hook-up on various surfaces, including the carpet tracks found at RC madness. Enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the performance of these new tires, as they strive to achieve superior handling and control during their races.
In conclusion, the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR presents several noteworthy upgrades over its predecessor, enhancing both performance and driving experience. With improvements in the chassis, servo, transmission, slipper assembly, and electronics, as well as the introduction of new tires, this mini RC buggy is poised to provide enthusiasts with an unparalleled and exhilarating racing experience.
What Comes in the Box
Let me show you what you can expect to find when you open up the box of the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR RC buggy. Firstly, you will get the S slt2 radio system, which ensures a strong and reliable connection between the transmitter and receiver. Additionally, the package includes the new Spectrum USBC charger, along with a handy little adapter that is specifically designed for the Spectrum batteries. Speaking of batteries, you will receive an 810 battery pack, offering longer runtime compared to standard packs. The box also contains some basic tools, decals for customization, and of course, an instruction manual to guide you through the setup and operation process.
Tuning Options
One exciting feature of the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR is the availability of TLR tuned option parts. These aftermarket parts are designed to enhance the performance and appearance of the RC buggy. Some of the noteworthy options include carbon fiber shock towers, a sway bar set, and aluminum shocks. If you are a serious racer looking to take your Mini B to the next level, these tuning options will definitely catch your attention. With these high-quality components, you can customize your buggy to suit your driving style and track conditions.
Testing at RC Madness
At RC Madness, the home of the mini Nationals, I had the opportunity to test the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR on the track. After a few practice runs, I quickly realized that this little buggy is fast. The acceleration is impressive, especially in the lower rev range. However, it also requires careful throttle management to avoid overpowering the wheels. There is a slight issue of understeer, which means you have to be cautious while cornering. Braking early becomes necessary to maintain control and prevent the buggy from pushing out. On the jumps, the Mini B handles well and rolls smoothly, but it could benefit from some additional weight to improve stability.
A Promising Performer
The Losi Mini B Brushless RTR proves to be a promising performer on the track. Despite a few minor handling quirks, the buggy showcases impressive speed and agility. With the availability of TLR tuned option parts, enthusiasts can fine-tune the Mini B to their liking. Overall, this RC buggy offers an exciting and thrilling experience for both casual hobbyists and competitive racers alike.
First Impressions
The Losi Mini B Brushless RTR is an RC buggy that promises to deliver an exhilarating experience for hobby enthusiasts. From the moment I took it out for a spin, it became evident that this mini beast is no ordinary toy. Its speed and agility left me both thrilled and perplexed at the same time.
Thrilling Rides and Minor Hiccups
As I unleashed the buggy on straight roads, the wheels spun with electrifying power, urging me to hit the gas even harder. The sheer excitement was met with applause, from both myself and onlookers. However, there were instances where the buggy’s speed got the best of me. In my attempt to conquer steep jumps, I sometimes overshot, causing the occasional hiccup.
A Minor Setback
One issue I encountered was the popping of the ball cups, a couple of times. While this was a slight inconvenience, it was not a major drawback that hampered the overall experience. Additionally, the spring perch showed some vulnerability, as the spring would pop up and over it. Nevertheless, the buggy exhibited excellent handling straight out of the box.
An Unforgettable Race
Excited to put the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR to the test, I headed to RC Madness for an evening of mini-racing. The first qualifying race proved to be an intense battle, with my friend Jeff from 413 RC setting a blistering pace. He was running a fully Decked Out mini be, while I kept up right behind him at a close 16 laap pace. The rest of the field put up a commendable 15 laap pace.
Outstanding Performance
What impressed me the most was the buggy’s exceptional performance straight out of the box. Despite being completely stock, apart from the 16 G brass plate underneath the battery for added stability, the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR delivered a thrilling ride. It did take some time to get used to the responsiveness of the brushless motor system, but the unmatchable punch it offered was worth the learning curve.
In conclusion, the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR is a mini RC buggy that packs a punch like no other. Its speed, agility, and thrilling performance make it stand out from the crowd. Though facing some minor setbacks, such as ball cup popping and spring perch vulnerability, these issues were overshadowed by its outstanding handling and overall performance. Whether you’re a seasoned hobbyist or a beginner, this mini beast will keep you on your toes and leave you wanting more. Do you dare to take on the challenge?
The Thrill of Speed
A lot of that is at the bottom end of the trigger throw, and so, if you just pull a throttle on this, it’s going to whip over backwards on you. The sheer power of the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR buggy is astonishing. When I went out to practice, that’s all I experienced – wheelies down the straightway, wheelies off the jumps. It was kind of a wild scene. You really have to manage the throttle with this system, and once you do that, you can really start to lay down some fast laps.
A Slippery Situation
One of the things I noticed is these tires. The widebody tires they make the car understeer a lot, which I’d rather have than it hooking in the corners – that’s just no fun. But you know, to dial it in more for racing, I would say you probably want to go pick up some Prime wedge tires at the very least. The rear tires actually worked pretty well, so you might want to stick around with those. The setup seems to work really good out of the box, definitely manageable for getting around the track.
Fine-Tuning for the Track
I probably want to put a little bit heavier oil in the shocks when I go to race it. Adding some more weight to the suspension will help keep the buggy stable during high-speed maneuvers. I would also recommend putting a thicker diff grease in there; it’s an adjustment that many experienced racers know. It helps ensure smoother power distribution and improves overall handling.
Pushing the Limits
The Losi Mini B Brushless RTR buggy handles well out of the box. However, if you’re the type of racer who likes to push the limits and extract every ounce of performance, you may want to consider upgrading to a brass bulkhead up front at some point. This upgrade will provide added durability and stability, particularly when tackling rough terrains or aggressive corners.
With its impressive speed and agility, the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR buggy has definitely caught the attention of RC enthusiasts. It’s a machine that can deliver thrills and test your skills as a driver. Whether you’re a seasoned racer or a curious beginner, this mini RC buggy will surely leave you craving for more speed and excitement.
Improved Ball Cups
When it comes to the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR, I must admit I was rather impressed. The performance of this mini RC buggy is undeniably impressive, with its speed and agility on the track. However, there is one issue that seems to persist despite the improvements made – the ball cups.
During my practice sessions, I found that the ball cups tended to pop off whenever I hit a wall too hard. This became quite frustrating as it happened multiple times, forcing me to take breaks to address the issue. It seems that the revised ball cups still have difficulty staying in place when encountering significant impacts. Fortunately, my friend Dean has some of the new ball cups and hasn’t experienced this problem. So, if you tend to be a bit too reckless and constantly find yourself colliding with walls, be prepared for the possibility of the ball cups coming loose.
A Desire for Bind and Drive
One aspect of the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR that I wish they had retained is the bind and drive feature. In the past, this RC buggy allowed users to bind it with their own Spectrum transmitters, providing a customizable experience. However, with the revised model, they made the decision to include a radio system. While the radio works perfectly fine, I personally would have preferred the option to use my own transmitter.
An Efficient Receiver
On a positive note, the inclusion of a 315 receiver in the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR is commendable. I had no trouble connecting my transponder, and everything worked seamlessly. This receiver proves to be efficient and convenient for racers who prioritize timing and lap tracking.
The Track Experience
When it comes to performance on the track, the Losi Mini B Brushless RTR does not disappoint. It easily glides around corners and showcases its impressive speed. During my time testing it, I found myself navigating the track with relative ease and speed. Although there were the occasional hiccups with the ball cups, the overall experience was thrilling and enjoyable.
