The Troubles with My Traxxas XMaxx

Upon first glance, my Traxxas XMaxx may not appear to be in terrible condition. However, beneath the surface lies a series of mishaps and malfunctions. It all began when one of the arms on the vehicle stretched out, causing it to constantly pop off the pin. Initially, it was the rear arm that suffered this fate, but to my dismay, I soon discovered that the problem also affected the other side. This meant that I had to go through the hassle of replacing both upper arms on the Traxxas XMaxx.

Center Drive Shaft
I know I’m working on my Xmaxx. I should put some of the stuff on, but I’m kind of on a time crunch because I’m trying to prepare for an event this weekend, so I don’t want to put any new stuff on yet. But we will do some of those things.
Um, also they have a whole bunch of screw and bearing kits out here, which is nice because if you have a car – and you know you’ve been working on a lot, you can just get the screw kit or if you want to upgrade to bearings. They also have stainless steel bearings, which is really cool. Apparently, they last longer and don’t rust as easy. Yeah, we’re going to try some of those out soon, but that’s not why I came.
Upgraded Servo
We got to get the stuff that we need, which is this guy right here. This is a center drive shaft for the Xmaxx. Not sure if y’all care about the part number, but there it is. And then this is what you need to upgrade the Xmaxx servo to a standard high torque servo. So this is a little adapter that you can put the servo in, and the Xmaxx servo is a lot larger than a normal standard size servo. So this kind of takes up the space.
Upgraded Spring and Servo Arm
I also got this, which is the upgraded spring and servo arm. It just makes the servo saver stiffer, so it’s got better control and response.

My Traxxas XMAXX is really giving me a hard time. It’s all messed up and in need of serious upgrades.
Replacing Parts
There are a couple of things that need immediate attention. The first is the issue of under steer. It’s not as bad as before, but still needs improvement. I’ve decided to upgrade both the steering and the suspension to address this problem.
Shopping for Upgrades
To fix these problems, I need to get my hands on some specific parts. I’m going to need the steering and suspension upgrades, as well as a new fortech body. One of my forte bodies is completely damaged and unusable. I also plan on painting the new body white, to match my actual Mustang.

So this is kind of like a wrenching time. For me, it’s nice and cool outside. I sit in the garage, and I like to wrench, and differentials are probably one of my least favorite things to maintain on my RC car.

So I give you guys a full range of dip fluid. We have 100K, 15K, 10K, and 5K. I talk about the cool applications or what kind of oils you should use in what car in a little ride up. Basically, you put this on your ring and pinion gears and it just makes it nice and smooth, buttery smooth.
Nitro Pro Microfibers
But what’s really cool are these Nitro pro microfibers. I know that sounds weird, that I’m all excited about microfibers, but I’m not joking. I went to Psycho Nitro Blast one year and I got some of these, and they blew me away. They are probably the nicest microfibers I’ve ever seen in my life.
The Towel-Like Design
Check these out, it’s got this really cool design on the front side and on the backside. It’s like a towel, but it’s so nice that I don’t really clean diffs with them. It’s just too nice, like when you see someone showing off jewelry or a firearm, they need to lay it on something that’s just as nice. That’s how nice this microfiber is, but you get two of these microfibers just in case.
In summary, my Traxxas XMaxx is all messed up and it’s during my favorite wrenching time. Luckily, I have a full range of dip fluids to choose from and some friction grease to make things smoother. Now, here comes the mega trick! To clean the dirty gears, grab some old microfiber cloth. Instead of using fancy and expensive microfibers, it’s better to use the old and worn ones for this task. The reason being, these old ones will get greasy and dirty, and you wouldn’t want to ruin your new microfibers, which are better suited for other cleaning purposes or for wiping your hands.
The Cleaning Process
Take a piece of the old microfiber cloth and shove it into the differential, ensuring it covers the gears. Once you’ve done that, give it a gentle spin. You will be amazed at how the microfiber cloth picks up all the dirt and grime, leaving your gears super clean and ready for action.
