WPL Toys Fast Attack Buggy: A Cheap Way to Get Into the RC Hobby
Overview
The WPL Toys Fast Attack Buggy is a 1/16 scale toy grade RC car that is a great way to get into the RC hobby without spending hundreds of pounds or dollars on a high end model. It comes in two colors, desert yellow and camo green, and features proportional steering and throttle, a plastic chassis, a plastic hard body, working LEDs, a 17 gram steering servo, and a 280 size motor with ball bearings.
Features
The WPL Toys Fast Attack Buggy features proportional steering and throttle, which is just friction. The shocks have a bit of movement on the rear, but the front is very stiff. It has a plastic chassis and a plastic hard body, and is 1/16 scale. Working LEDs are included on the front and rear, and dual rates are available for both the throttle and steering. It also has a 17 gram steering servo and a 280 size motor with ball bearings.
Price
The WPL Toys Fast Attack Buggy is very affordable, with a price of only 60. This makes it a great option for those who want to get into the RC hobby without spending a lot of money.
WPL RC Cars: What You Get in the Box
The Transmitter
WPL RC cars come with a nice little transmitter in the hand. It has all the buttons you need for steering, throttle, and on/off. It takes two double A batteries and comes with some stickers that you can stick on the interior for a Speedo and other decorations.
The Battery
The battery is a 500 milliamp hour, 2s lie ion battery. It comes with a 1.2 amp USB charger and instructions on how to get the battery out. To get the battery out, you need to unscrew the battery compartment and then pinch the two little bits to open the battery cover.
The Tires
The tires are really hard and made of rubber. They are super hard, so you may need to upgrade them if you want more grip.
Upgrades
There are loads of upgrades available for most WPL stuff. If you want to make your RC car faster, better, or whatever, you can find the parts you need.
A WPL Buggy: A Late Night Shopping Impulse Buy
A First Impression
The WPL buggy looks cool and has a lot of potential. It has no suspension, but there is some movement when squatting, bouncing, and jumping. The motor is quite loud, but the steering servo is not waterproof.
Turning It On
To turn on the buggy, the transmitter must be turned on and the button on the side must be pressed. The lights will flash and then go solid when the throttle or steering is pressed.
Taking It For a Ride
The buggy was taken for a ride and it performed quite well. However, after going through some mud, the steering servo was not very happy. Despite this, the buggy still looks cooler with the mud on it. Unfortunately, the steering servo is not working properly, so the buggy can no longer be driven.
Full Throttle on the RCS: Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning the RCS
A lot of people ask me how I clean my RCS after I run them. Generally, I run it through the water and give it a clean. This particular RCS didn’t seem to like it very much, as it stopped working after a dunk in the water. Although the lights were still on, it’s clear that it is not waterproof.
Run Time
I only got about 10 minutes run time out of that RCS before it stopped working. I ran it through the mud and water straight away, but it still didn’t last very long.
Appearance and Performance
The RCS looks pretty cool and is pretty quick, but it is very much toy grade. It’s probably still better than something you’d get from a kids toy shop, but it’s not for me. I prefer the WPLC 24 or the C24 1, but this one seems a bit more cheap and cheerful.
Upgrades and Mods
There are probably some upgrades and mods that could be done to the RCS, but I’m not a massive buggy fan anyway. It’s also clear that it is not waterproof, so any mods would need to take that into account.
Cheap and Cheerful: Is it Worth It?
The Lowdown on Cheap and Cheerful
Cheap and cheerful products are everywhere. From clothing to electronics, there are plenty of options for those looking for a bargain. But is it really worth it?
The Pros of Cheap and Cheerful
The obvious pro of cheap and cheerful products is the price. You can often find items that are much cheaper than their more expensive counterparts. This can be a great way to save money if you’re on a budget.
The Cons of Cheap and Cheerful
The downside of cheap and cheerful products is that they often don’t last as long as more expensive items. This means that you may have to replace them more often, which can end up costing you more in the long run. Additionally, the quality of the product may not be as good as more expensive items.
The Final Verdict
Whether or not cheap and cheerful products are worth it depends on your individual needs and budget. If you’re looking for something that will last a long time and have a high quality, then it may be worth it to invest in a more expensive item. However, if you’re on a tight budget and just need something to get the job done, then cheap and cheerful products may be the way to go.
